By the time she was born, Elvis’ granddaughter Riley Keough was already part of Hollywood royalty. With paparazzi following her and her mom, Lisa Marie Presley, everywhere, Keough was familiar with the craziness of fame since day one – that is, however, until her mom started dating King of Pop Michael Jackson.
After all, while the world cared about Keough and Presley, Jackson was debatably the most famous man in the world when they started dating in 1994.
But, as Keough revealed in a recent appearance on Call Her Daddy, her world didn’t change in the way you might think.

“Our life wasn’t crazier because that was already there,” she told host Alex Cooper. “That already existed, like the press and the crazy, the paparazzi and, all that, but her life, I think when she saw Michael’s life, there were things that he had that she didn’t have.”
In other words, while her late mom was used to the media and paparazzi, it was more her life inside closed doors that changed.
“She didn’t have a plane at the time or things like that, and so she then was like, ‘Oh, I should have a plane and I should have this and that,’ and so our life in that way kind of got bigger because before that, she was with my dad and their life was very simple,” she said. “Not with the press and the craziness, but in terms of at home. She didn’t have 10 million assistants and she didn’t need all of that and I think that changed.”
As a reminder, Presley and Jackson tied the knot on May 26, 1994, and divorced two years later in 1996.
During his time as Keough’s stepdad – who she called “Mimi” – Jackson would go to lengths to impress her and her late brother Benjamin.
“There was a lot of closing down things for us,” she said. “Well, it was kind of like the only way that our family could do things if we wanted to go to a toy store or like something like that, or ride rides, so it wasn’t that, I don’t know if it was necessarily done for us or if just for like our family situation where we had to shut the toy stores and stuff.”
“There was one memorable time in London where we were in the toy store, so it was just my brother and I in the whole toy store, and we were just going floor to floor to floor and filling up our thing,” she remembered.
Keough also opened up about not knowing much about the abuse allegations against Jackson and his Neverland ranch at the time.
“I was never told anything and it’s actually not something I ever asked as an adult,” she admitted.
“I would imagine that my dad was really heartbroken and reading the news, and I’m sure that, I’m just imagining,” she said of her dad, Danny Keough. “I would imagine he said all kinds of things to my mom that we didn’t know about, but nothing like the way my parents parented was very much like, ‘We don’t fight around the kids. We don’t ever say anything around them.'”
No matter how extravagant and crazy her chapter was with Jackson, it seemed to be short and mostly sweet.
