Vanessa Morgan said “yes” to James Karnik!
The Riverdale alum, 32, announced her engagement on Dec. 25 to the basketball star five months after welcoming daughter Kaia Autumn Skye, writing on Instagram, “Merry Christmas Eve from me and my fiancée.”
“James knows how much I love Christmas, especially all the festive lights, so he took me to the Langley Glow Light Festival,” Vanessa recalled to People. “We were walking around, and I honestly thought he was going to propose on Christmas morning, so it came as a complete shock when it happened.”
She continues: “James had just injured his foot — we weren’t sure if it was a break or a sprain at the time, but he was on crutches. I asked him if he was sure he wanted to walk around on crutches, and he said, ‘For you, I’ll do it. I know how much you love this.’ It seemed a little suspicious, but I didn’t think much of it.”
“Then, in the middle of all the lights and people, James put down his crutches to ‘adjust his shoe,’ and that’s when I started to suspect something was up,” the actress continued. “He dropped his crutches, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him.”
She shares daughter Kaia, who turns 5 months old on Dec. 27, with Karnik and son River, 3, with ex-husband Michael Kopech.
During an exclusive interview with J-14 in 2022, Vanessa gushed about motherhood and dished on River’s personalty.
“He’s just so funny. He’s like a little comedian. It’s really funny, he likes pointing out now,” she shares. “Now that he knows my name is Mama to him, he just loves telling everybody, ‘That’s my Mama.’ I find it hilarious. He only started doing that a week ago and it just cracks me up. He just loves telling people that’s his mom. He just says, ‘Wow,’ at everything. And that’s also so incredible to me, he’ll look at a wrapping paper and be like, ‘Wow.’ He just always puts a smile on my face.”
