Rob Kearney says he would take back comment he made about his wedding day if he could

Rob Kearney says he would take back a comment he made about his wedding to Jess Redden if he could.

The Ireland and Leinster rugby legend tied the knot with pharmacist Jess at the five-star Trump International Hotel in Doonbeg, Clare in December 2021.

But earlier this year, Rob admitted his wedding day didn't "even register" as one of the best days in his life considering how many sporting successes he has achieved.

"I'm sure she won't mind me saying this, but discussing our wedding day with Jess is always… she thinks this was the best day of her life, there's nothing that would come close to her wedding day, the best day of her life," he told the Insights with Sean O'Rourke podcast back in April.

"I loved it, I'd love to do it all again, and in my own head I'm thinking 'Jaysus this doesn't come into top ten days of my life'. I've had Heineken cups, Grand Slams, beaten the All Blacks...our wedding day doesn't even register."

Now, Rob says if he could take back the comments he would during a conversation with his former rugby teammate Tommy Bowe.

Rob appeared on Ireland AM this morning to discuss Ireland's upcoming match against New Zealand on Friday, and Tommy couldn't resist poking fun at the situation.

Tommy said: "You were part of that famous team that beat the All Blacks back in 2016. Something that is, what is it called? One of those most defining moments in life? Even better than marriage, is that right?"

Rob replied with a laugh: "Ah Tommy come on, you didn't have to go there. I came in early as well and you're firing at me!"

Tommy asked him: "Did you get into a little bit of trouble for that comment?"

"Do you know what, if there are some things in life you could take back, that would be one of them," the dad-of-one confessed.

Giving context to viewers, co-host Muireann O'Connell chipped in: "Rob said that beating the All Blacks was better than his wedding day. I remember reading it, and thinking, you did not say that out loud."

Rob explained: "The night before [the wedding] was unbelievable, the day after was unbelievable. On the day... of course it was nothing about the idea of marriage and all that goes with that. But you're dealing with priests in the morning, and speeches, making sure that everything is okay..."

"Listen, I'm with you," Tommy interjected, to which Rob joked back: "Well you weren't with me a few months ago when you had the discussion here."

Laughing, Tommy answered: "I never got to beat the All Blacks and it would have been one of those life defining moments if I did get to do it, so congratulations."
