Rob Lowe Reveals A 'Brat Pack'-Era Romance With Demi Moore

4 weeks ago 10

Rob Lowe and Demi Moore, two of the biggest stars to emerge from the so-called “Brat Pack” of the 1980s, appeared together in the era-defining films “About Last Night” and “St. Elmo’s Fire.” According to Lowe, the pair’s on-screen chemistry spilled over into real life.

Appearing on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast this week, the “9-1-1: Lone Star” actor acknowledged that he and Moore had a short-lived romance.

After joking that a “big, big sex orgy” took place behind the scenes of “St. Elmo’s Fire,” he told Ripa: “Demi and I briefly — I’m not telling tales out of school — we briefly had a thing.”

Though Lowe didn’t specify the exact timeline of his relationship with Moore, he noted it was before she got engaged to another “St. Elmo’s Fire” actor, Emilio Estevez.

“Look, anytime you put young 20-something men and women together, hookups are inevitable,” he quipped. “I don’t think that has changed.”

Moore broke off her engagement to Estevez in 1986 and, about a year later, she married actor Bruce Willis. She remained on good terms with both Estevez and Lowe. Lowe told Ripa that they were both guests at her wedding.

Even though Lowe and Moore didn’t work out in real life, the two actors have continued to support one another’s projects over the years.

If Lowe has his way, he’ll share the screen with both Moore and Estevez again soon. He told Ripa that the long-gestating plans for a “St. Elmo’s Fire” sequel are “moving along.”

“It’s going a little more slowly than I would have liked, but that’s a good thing because we’re trying to find the right writer and the right story,” he explained. “But all of the actors, everybody is on board.”

Though the original “St. Elmo’s Fire” was a coming-of-age story that chronicled the lives of characters in their 20s, Lowe believes a sequel would offer viewers a reminder that “it’s never too late for happiness.”

“You know, because our kids are out of school, and maybe some of us have been divorced … all the things that you deal with as you get to our ages, this is an opportunity to explore those themes with characters that people know and love,” he explained. “I actually think there’s a lot to be said about why we’re doing it and I’m super excited about it. Hopefully we can pull it off.”
