The United States needs Robert De Niro‘s help in Netflix‘s Zero Day.
The iconic actor’s first turn on television will see him playing a former president who is called in to help after a crippling cyber attack on the nation, called a Zero Day event. Netflix revealed a first look at the limited series on Wednesday when announcing the anticipated release date of Feb. 20.
In Zero Day, De Niro stars as respected former U.S. President George Mullen, who, as head of the Zero Day Commission, is charged with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber attack that has caused chaos around the country and thousands of fatalities. The synopsis reads, “As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear.”
The six-episode series was co-created by writers Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim and New York Times writer Michael S. Schmidt, with Lesli Linka Glatter directing all episodes.
The star-studded cast also includes Angela Bassett, Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton and Matthew Modine, with guest stars Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, Gaby Hoffmann, Clark Gregg and McKinley Belcher III.
Along with Newman, Oppenheim Linka Glatter, Schmidt and De Niro, Jonathan Glickman is an executive producer.
