Rocker Rod Stewart and his model wife Penny Lancaster have made an announcement just days after celebrating his 80th birthday on a lavish Caribbean holiday

Music icon Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster have taken a huge step in their careers.

The couple have been announced as the newest celebrity ambassadors for the King’s charity The King’s Foundation just days after Rod celebrated his 80th birthday. They will join the likes of David Beckham and Sienna Miller in the role and will pay a visit to the charity's headquarters in Scotland this week.

Sir Rod, who has long been a supporter of the charity, said: “We are so pleased to be coming on board as ambassadors for The King’s Foundation and look forward to lending our support to this worthwhile cause, particularly during such a significant year for the charity.”

The rocker attended the foundation’s inaugural awards in St James’s Palace in June alongside King Charles. Model Penny added: “As a volunteer special constable, the Foundation’s approach to building communities – and how access to green spaces can help build better, healthier places – is particularly important to me.

“It’s an honour to be working with the Foundation and I can’t wait to meet more of the inspiring people who both learn with and work for the organisation.” The couple will head to Dumfries House in Ayrshire where they will meet staff at the Health and Wellbeing Centre on the Dumfries estate to hear about the range of perimenopause programmes.

They will also support groups available on site for the local community, linked to Penny’s role as patron of Menopause Mandate. The King’s Foundation was previously known as The Prince’s Foundation following an amalgamation of Charles’s charities.

Rod and Penny have kicked off their string of celebrations for his huge milestone. Their family gave a glimpse into his 80th bash on a three-tiered super yacht, with sons Alastair, 19, and Aiden Patrick, 13, there to celebrate as well as Rod's daughter Kimberly Stewart, 45. The yacht reached St Barts on Tuesday morning and there are said to be three chefs on board to cater to everything the family needs.

Rod posted a message saying: "May I take this opportunity on this my 80th birthday to personally express my gratitude and thanks to all my loyal and rowdy fans all over the world for helping give me such a wonderful life. In return I hope I've given you some memorable songs and lively concerts and...I've not finished yet."

Penny also posted a photo of Rod enjoying the family’s ten-day cruise on the luxury yacht. She wrote: "Happy birthday my darling. So blessed to be sharing this day with all our kids. Building more memories to carry to our hearts forever. I love you." The family birthday trip comes after Rod flew them all first class to Florida and told them that they would not need to pay a penny during the celebrations. Rod was also photographed watching his beloved Celtic on a laptop on the boat, as nothing will get between him and his football team.
