Singer Rod Stewart has been open about his heath and told fans his "days were numbered" before his 80th birthday.

The music icon is celebrating the huge milestone with his family ahead of another momentous year as he headlines Glastonbury's legends slot. He is showing no sign of slowing down and recently declared: "I have no desire to retire." Wife Penny Lancaster will be taking on birthday planning, with celebrations set to last "several weeks".

Rod and Penny are believed to have spent Christmas at their home in Palm Beach, Florida, before sailing to the Caribbean in time for the big day. The rocker's eight children are likely to join in and he is affectionately called the 'Rodfather' by his three grandchildren; Delilah, 13, and Otis and Louie, who are both 19 months. Tour cancellations and 'days numbered'

Last year, Rod was forced to cancel three shows in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Lincoln in California after contracting strep throat and testing positive for Covid within a matter of days. The rockstar told fans his "days were numbered" while he took some time to recover.

Rod revealed he had suffered a significant health setback only hours before the landmark 200th show in Las Vegas. He said: "Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me. I'm absolutely gutted. I've been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused. Thankfully we'll now be returning in 2025 and I hope to see you all there."

Reassurance after fan panic

Amid concern for his health, Rod wanted to clarify his comment. He had panicked fans with his frank confession, but assured that he has been "misunderstood". He told The Sun: "When I said ‘My days are numbered,’ it was purely in jest. Aren’t everybody’s days numbered? I am in embarrassingly wonderful health and enjoying life to the full. I am not dying as far as I know.”

The singer revealed he was training to achieve a fitnessworldrecord for a 79-year-old by attempting to run 100 metres in 18 seconds. He explained he trains three or four times a week on his own personal football field, gym and swimming pool. Rod keeps fit thanks to the help of his personal trainer – the same one he's had for 37 years.

Penny shares hidden condition

Penny opened up on Rod when she made an appearance on Loose Women in September and revealed his hidden condition. They discussed the subject of how bold they were with their house decor, Penny shared information that stunned viewers. Sharing how exuberant her house decor is with leopard print and gold furnishings throughout, she said: "My husband is colour blind and when we're going he'd go 'darling does this go with this?' and I'm like 'on you, it does, honey' because I think you're flamboyant and that's your style and it's great.' But like I have a room which is zen, calm. You know I try to create some zen in our mad house!"
