Family life

Sharon has two children, a daughter named Hannah and a son named Tobin.

She opened up about the sweet meaning behind her son’s name, which is her surname. The journalist explained that it is a nod to her late father, who passed away when she was only four years old. As there are no boys in her family, Sharon wanted her surname to continue on in some way.

However, she admitted her son’s name has caused some confusion.

“The passport office did ring when his application went in to ask if we had the name right?,” she told the RTE Guide.

“I was never going to change my name when I got married but we also had no boys in our family so in a way it was to continue the family name.

“We thought he would end up being called Toby but no, even in the creche, he would tell everyone he was Tobin.”

The family live together in Westmeath, after Sharon shared that they moved away from Dublin in 2020.

Sharon was previously married but they separated about seven years ago.

She opened up about co-parenting, telling the RTE Guide in 2022: “My kids now have two worlds because their dad lives in Dublin so that's great for them, a house in the country and a house in Dublin.

“I think being a parent is challenging enough what with childcare and all that craic so you have got your wall planner and your stickers to tell you who needs to be where and on what day.

“That's every parent and every family. Every parent must do it; we just do it in different places.”
