Were Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt an item??
As Perezcious readers know, the business partners were charged with child abuse in 2023 for crimes done to Ruby’s children — who were also the stars of her popular YouTube channel 8 Passengers. In September 2023, one of Ruby’s sons escaped their home and ran to a neighbor for help, unearthing the horrific situation. The mommy content creator eventually pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse and was sentenced to up to 60 years in prison while her partner received up to 30 years.

On Tuesday, Ruby’s eldest child Shari released a tell-all about the abuse the family experienced titled The House of My Mother: A Daughter’s Quest for Freedom. In it, she recalls the time Jodi came to live with her family — and alleges the women had an intimate relationship!
Apparently, Jodi moved in with the Frankes in 2022 because Ruby claimed Jodi’s soul was “under siege from Satan himself.” Jodi was put into Shari’s bedroom, forcing the girl to stay on the “couch downstairs.” The room — and then the entire upstairs — became “off-limits” to Ruby’s then-husband Kevin unless he had explicit permission. That’s… odd. Shari continued:
“Ruby soon decided it was best for her to bunk with Jodi, so her friend didn’t have to suffer through her demonic night terrors alone.”
Shari claims the life coach was “experiencing incredibly detailed visions,” so her room became the friends’ “sanctuary,” where they often “hunkered down.” They would allegedly only leave for ice cream or “little ‘shopping trips’ down to Mexico, coming back with grocery bags full of pills,” which Ruby insisted were “part of their grand plan to stockpile antibiotics for the end of days.” Huh.
During one of those Mexico trips, the BYU student snuck into her bedroom to get something and was left feeling super “confused” by what she saw. She recalled:
“I pushed open the door to my bedroom and looked around, confused. The room was bathed in the soft glow of candles. The air was heavy with the scent of lavender and vanilla wafting from the massage oils on the dresser. I quickly grabbed what I needed and got the hell out of there, feeling like I had just walked into someone else’s honeymoon suite. The only thing missing was rose petals on the bed.”
Wow!!
That night, the 21-year-old couldn’t sleep and had a feeling “that I’d seen something I wasn’t supposed to.” And then she saw something she really wasn’t supposed to! She dished:
“It must have been around 5:00 am when I heard a creak of footsteps upstairs. I cracked one eye open, just in time to see Ruby tiptoeing out of my room, her hair messy, her cheeks flushed and her robe hastily tied, heading back to the bedroom she shared with my dad. A strange smile on her face. She looked … mischievous.”
She mused:
“What the hell was going on? Why was Ruby sneaking around in the middle of the night like a teenager trying not to get caught by her parents? Were they really doing candlelit massages in my bedroom? How could this be happening, with all of us in the house?”
She called the whole thing “equal parts fascinating and horrific,” especially since the “women who preached ‘truth’ while living lies” and “who condemned queerness very publicly in their ConneXions videos” were now seemingly “embodying it privately. In my room. On my bed, most likely.”
Shari claims she “would have supported” her Mormon mom’s speculated lesbian love affair had they been open about it:
“It would have been preferable to living like … this. In this house of lies that I couldn’t bear to step foot in anymore.”
While it’s unclear if she ever asked her mom about her relationship with Jodi, Shari also claimed she found messages on her mom’s laptop after their arrests that seemed to suggest something NSFW had been going down in her bedroom. She detailed:
“[The messages showed] Ruby, expressing her frustration about having to cater to Jodi’s needs for physical affection without getting anything in return.”
But during an interview on Good Morning America on Tuesday, Shari simply replied, “I’m not sure,” when asked whether she thought the women were more than friends. Hmm. Wouldn’t you… know??
By the way, Ruby and her husband Kevin separated in 2022 around the time Jodi moved in, though he remained in the home for a bit before ultimately moving out and filing for divorce after her arrest. FWIW, he has also claimed he was restricted from parts of the house unless he had permission. He also said Jodi and Ruby would share a bed and his wife began to have “trances” in which “she believed that she was going to heaven and seeing God and Jesus and talking with them.”
