Ryan Preece is starting anew as he joins RFK Racing for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season. Preece, who has made a name for himself after two years at Stewart-Haas Racing, will now be driving the No. 60 car under the guidance of his newly appointed crew chief, Derrick Finley—a pairing that carries high expectations for both the team and fans.
Finley, who has been with RFK Racing since 2022 but in the sport since the early 2000s, is well-equipped for this upcoming challenge. It is anticipated to contribute significantly to the growth of RFK Racing's operations.
Ryan Preece has a rich racing background, having won the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship in 2013 and securing 26 victories in the same series. His early days saw him racing at famous tracks like Stafford Motor Speedway and Riverhead Raceway.
His experience provides a sturdy foundation as he anticipates improving his record of four top-five finishes and 16 top-10s in 187 NASCAR Cup Series starts. Preece is looking to leverage Finley's expertise to make the most of his 2025 season.
Derrick Finley steps into his role as crew chief with a comprehensive track record. He served as a crew chief for Michael Waltrip Racing during their inaugural season with Toyota in 2007-2008, and later held the role of Technical Director at Petty Enterprises before their merger. Finley's experience also includes a stint as Competition Director for Front Row Motorsports. In 2022, he joined RFK Racing, where he served as crew chief for the #Stage60 program in 2024.
Finley's technical know-how, backed by his mechanical engineering degree, promises to drive the No. 60 car toward success.
"I am incredibly excited to lead the No. 60 team. I'm looking forward to working with Ryan (Preece) and the entire team.
"It's a great opportunity to help start up a new team as we continue to grow at RFK Racing," Finley said. His excitement is matched by Preece, who is optimistic about the collaboration.
"Derrick will be a big help in getting the team integrated in the RFK processes. His experience with the procedures the organization has in place will help lay the foundation for the No. 60 car."
Brad Keselowski, RFK Racing's co-owner and driver, also voiced his support for having Finley at the helm.
"We're thrilled to have Derrick lead the No. 60 team. His experience and technical knowledge of the sport will play a crucial role in the initial development and growth of the No. 60 team," Keselowski stated.
The 2025 season is a year of expansion for RFK Racing, as Keselowski and co-owners Jack Roush and John Henry steer the team into a three-car operation with the addition of the No. 60 car, each to be sponsored by Kroger.
Moreover, RFK Racing will reportedly lease a charter from Rick Ware Racing to ensure the No. 60 car's full-time entry in the 2025 season.
Established in 1988 by Jack Roush, RFK Racing has grown to become a cornerstone in NASCAR with a legacy of eight championships and over 300 wins.
