Palisades: CBS correspondent reports on wildfires in Los Angeles
The nominations ceremony for the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards has been postponed after growing wildfires in Los Angeles have forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes.
Since Tuesday morning, the Pacific Palisades area in Los Angeles has seen a fire grow to more than 2,900 acres as firefighters struggle to contain the flames.
More than 30,000 people are under evacuation orders, with images showing residents having abandoned their cars on main roads after getting stuck in traffic jams while fleeing the flames.
While the cause of the fire remains unclear, winds of up to 85mph and dry areas of land have helped to fuel the fire's rapid spread. Forecasters believe that the wildfire could worsen considerably today given the winds are expected to peak between 10pm local time (6am GMT).
SAG shared a statement on Tuesday night: “In an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests, and staff, the live in-person 31st Annual SAG Awards nominations announcement has been canceled due to the wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles."
