So, today we’ll look at the Samsung Galaxy A16 and see how it stands against other smartphone manufacturers that have dominated this price range for several years. We’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy A16 for a few days, and here’s our review.
Samsung Galaxy A16 5G Review: Design and Display
Let’s start by exploring the Samsung Galaxy A16’s design. The smartphone’s appearance and feel are just stunning. We received the gold version of the smartphone for our review, but it is also available in light green and blue-black. You get a glossy plastic surface on the rear that looks like glass and is prone to light scratches. Using a plastic case is advised. Like the S-series or any other Galaxy smartphone, the company has included separate triple camera rings with a flash on the left rear corner. Samsung’s logo has been imprinted in the middle of the lower section. Over that, the smartphone’s frame has a metallic finish.
The A16 is much thinner than its predecessor, the Galaxy A15 5G, and has a more upmarket look.
The SIM tray is on the left side of the frame, while the power and volume rockers have been inserted on the right. The Type-C port, microphone, and a single bottom-firing speaker are located on the bottom edge, while a second microphone is on top.
The bezels surrounding the screen are not very thin, whereas the chin of the smartphone is thicker than the side bezels. The device’s selfie camera is located directly in the middle of the top screen. The earpiece is in a narrow slot placed directly above the smartphone’s selfie camera.

The smartphone was a visual feast for us as we viewed numerous videos on it. At all times, the visuals displayed on the screen were clear and sharp. The handset’s 800 nits of peak brightness makes it a little difficult to read in the sun, but it is perfectly fine indoors.
Considering the price range at which it is offered, the support for a 90Hz refresh rate is excellent. However, its competitors are already offering 120Hz panels in the same price range. Saying that, the screen has an amazing tactile feel.
This huge screen makes gaming and streaming more vibrant and vivid.
To cut costs, it has a fingerprint reader installed on the side, within the power button, rather than an in-display sensor. This is the case with most of its competitors. On the flipside, the device can be quickly unlocked thanks to the fingerprint scanner.
Samsung Galaxy A16 5G Review: Performance and Camera
We’ll quickly cover the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G’s other specifications before delving into its performance. It has a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, up to 256GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM. Up to 1 TB of microSD card is supported. Its primary USP, six OS upgrades and six years of security patches, are confirmed. OneUI 6.1, based on Android 14, comes pre-installed on the phone. One of the greatest benefits of these long-term software upgrades is that they make the phone seem like a new one every time there is a significant software update.

Samsung Wallet with Tap & Pay, a practical and safe payment option, and Samsung Knox Vault, a defence-grade security platform, are also part of the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G. Thanks to this, physical cards are no longer necessary because users may make purchases quickly by tapping their device against the payment terminal. Additionally, Samsung Wallet lets customers store tickets and ID cards in one location for convenient access while on the go.
Voice Focus, a feature of the Galaxy A16 5G, separates and improves your voice to provide completely clear calls even in loud environments. This ensures a more comfortable experience by eliminating the need to repeat oneself or put up with muffled conversations.
When it comes to launching apps or loading games, the phone performs well. We played many games on it to test it further, and our performance was unaffected. We had fun using this smartphone by playing demanding games like COD Mobile and BGMI. The visuals are enjoyable, and the game accuracy is good. Slight lag can be seen at times, but that is digestible.
We didn’t experience any slowdown; it was fantastic at multitasking, and it loaded all of the apps with ease.
The camera performance is the next crucial section of the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G review. A 50-megapixel primary camera, a 5-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens make up the triple back camera unit of this phone. The phone includes a 13-megapixel selfie camera on the front.
Overall, the cameras performed well, in daylight, they provided vibrant colours and a wide dynamic range. Comparing the ultra-wide-angle lens to the main sensor, however, revealed that it had trouble matching the colours and capturing dynamic range. We thus enjoyed playing with the primary sensor the best.
The pictures had accurate colour schemes and were crisp and clear. Over the day, we captured some stunning and incredibly clear images. The visual quality did not deteriorate even in the evening. This isn’t the case with photos that were taken in low light, though. There was some distortion and noise in them.
During the day, the selfies’ colours and details were vibrant and precise. However, we weren’t quite happy with the photos that were shot without a flash and in low light. When it came to edge detection, we felt heartbroken. This could have been better. Hopefully, with the next software update, Samsung will make it better.
You will receive a big 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging capability. For heavy users who spend most of their time gaming and watching movies, the battery will last for about a day. The battery, however, would last more than a day if you are an average user. It lasted more than a day for us.
Verdict
The smartphone is capable of handling daily tasks and multitasking well. We did not experience any major lags during our review. As mentioned earlier, its 90Hz refresh rate makes Instagram scrolling and online shopping feel like a breeze—smooth enough to swipe all your worries away. It also performed well in the gaming department, and we faced no heating problems.
