Scott Storch Describes Living With DMX as They Both Battled Addiction: 'It Was the Blind Leading the Blind'

Scott Storch once lived with DMX while they were both battling addiction, and it was a wild time, according to the iconic producer.

During a conversation this week on The Joe Rogan Experience, Storch recalled when the late rapper was staying with him at the height of their battles with cocaine and crack, respectively.

According to Storch, living with X was an experience, and even though he was addicted to cocaine, he tried to help the Grammy-nominated artist get better.

"X was living with me, man, and like it was the blind leading the blind. I'm a coke addict, and he's a crack addict, and I'm like trying to help him," Storch said. "I'm like, 'You really need to get clean, man.' Like, what the fuck. I'm like, 'You need to go to rehab.' So I convince him like to avoid a jail sentencing for something charge or whatever. He went to rehab and like getting his shit together."

Storch added that X went to the same rehab facility as him and that he was adamant about helping the rapper get clean.

However, he said, there was a moment when X broke out of the facility with one of the nurses and hung out with her at a Hard Rock Cafe across the street. Storch tried everything to get X readmitted to the facility, but there was no luck.

X was then sent to jail as he had been court-ordered to attend rehab. Storch also claimed he heard about X's deteriorating condition at another facility years later and set up a meeting to get him help once again, only to realize X had emphysema, a chronic lung condition that makes it hard to breathe.

Storch said X was "one rock away from death."

"We put him on a private plane to Washington to do a detox. He went through the whole detox, and the plan was to leave the detox and come to our facility, inpatient, and do rehab," said Storch. "He never made it back on the plane to head back, and we never saw him again, and that was me trying to save a man's life that I really love. He was such a special guy."

DMX died in White Plains Hospital in New York following a drug overdose and subsequent heart attack in 2021. He had been on life support after overdosing and was in a vegetative state. X was 50 years old.
