Severance official season 2 trailer on Apple TV+
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Severance season 2
Severance fans have been whipped up into a fury after watching the latest episode of the Apple TV+ science fiction thriller.
Titled Woe’s Hollow, the instalment ended with Irving B (played by John Turturro) appearing to leave the world of Lumon after exposing Helena Eagan (Britt Lower) for pretending to be Helly R.
The reveal left Mark S (Adam Scott) and Dylan G (Zach Cherry) shocked and dismayed after they’d believed Irving was simply paranoid.
Woe’s Hollow concluded with Milchick (Tramell Tillman) uttering the ominous words: “May Kier’s mercy follow you into the eternal dark.”
Irving closed his eyes and seemed to zone out and the screen faded to black with the end title credits following.
Severance’s creator Dan Erickson teased Irving’s fate in the latest Inside the Episode video: “We’ve got this huge reveal with Helly, but in doing that, Irving may have taken himself off the game board. What the fallout of that is going to be for Helly and for Irving, especially, is going to be huge.”

However, Severance viewers think they may have already worked out Irving’s fate and took to Reddit to share their theories.
One fan posted: “Any Theories? Yes: Lumon retires Irving.”
While another wrote: “Possibly Irving realizes that Helly is Helena and when the day is over, there may be reconciliations with his Outie [sic].”
A third theorised: “He literally sacrificed himself for her. If they bring helena back in the next episode I'm going to be p****d [sic].”
“I kept getting worried they were going to kill Irving. But I guess, in a way, they did,” said a fourth fan.
Another Redditor said: “No. He sacrificed himself to protect the other innies from Helena.”

Woe’s Hollow also saw Irving falling asleep out in the wilderness after getting lost and having a strange dream, which seemed to reveal to him once and for all Helly was in fact Helena.
Many audience members picked up on this, considering it would be the first time Lumon’s Innies were depicted sleeping.
One fan wrote: “I wonder if him (deeply) sleeping for the first time as an innie and having those dreams made him recall his outie's memories about Helena. His outie would clearly know who she is since he's been researching Lumon.”
Another commented: “I wonder if the place Irving slept influenced him to have hallucinations/weird dreams. I remember hearing some theories saying that sleeping at work was not allowed because the mind was vulnerable and susceptible to "leaking" information from their outie. Could it be that the huts were equipped with some technology that prevented this from happening?”

“Irving's dream with the computer you can see the letters E, A, G, A, N form into the shape of Helena's face at 42:56. That's how Irv put it together,” another astute viewer pointed out.
A third surmised: “Although we don’t know a ton about the science of dreaming, it seems pretty obvious that dreams are a crucial way that our consciousness organizes and arrives at meaning. No wonder they don’t want the innies to sleep [sic].”
Fans now have an agonising wait until next week to find out what becomes of Irving and Helly.
