The data analysed UK footfall figures recorded until 5pm on Black Friday.
Shopping centre footfall was up 1.6% on the discounting day last year, 24 November 2023.
High streets enjoyed the second-largest increase week on week, having recorded an 8.4% rise.
As consumers favoured high streets and shopping centres, retail parks footfall declined by 6% week on week.
MRI Software marketing and insights director Jenni Matthews said: "Footfall has dipped slightly in the last hour [between 4pm and 5pm]."
That was "likely the calm before the storm and people heading out this evening for late night shopping or festive get togethers", she added.
