Recent rumors claimed that Andy Cohen wants Lisa Vanderpump to return to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Although Andy eventually denied the rumors, it sparked a conversation about Lisa Vanderpump returning to the show that made her famous. LVP was a RHOBH OG and remained on the show for nine seasons. However, she had an unceremonious exit due to the infamous PuppyGate storyline. She even skipped the reunion.
In the years since her RHOBH exit, Lisa remained a Bravo mainstay. This was mostly due to the success of Vanderpump Rules. She’s appeared on other shows, including Vanderpump Villa and Gordon Ramsey’s Food Stars. While she hasn’t reappeared on RHOBH, Lisa gets mentioned on her old show a lot. Especially by former friend Kyle Richards. But would Lisa really return to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Should she?
What has Lisa Vanderpump said about returning to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?
Last year, Lisa said she was too busy to return to RHOBH. At the time, she insisted, “I’ve moved on from that, you know. I really have. I have.” A year later, Lisa is probably still too busy. She still has quite a few bars and restaurants to run. And she’s currently in production on the recast Vanderpump Rules Season 12. Lisa is the only confirmed cast member so far.
She also has the upcoming Vanderpump Villa Season 2. However, it’s interesting to note that Season 2 will feature Stassi Schroeder. At one point, Lisa and Stassi weren’t on speaking terms. And Stassi ruled out a reality TV return for a while. In other words, things change.
Would Lisa fit into the current Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast?
One reason Andy doesn’t see Lisa coming back is because he doesn’t see her fitting into the current cast. “I don’t even think she has any desire, or they have any desire to interact,” he said on Radio Andy.
Lisa and Kyle aren’t in a good place. And after PuppyGate, she’s not a fan of Dorit Kemsley either. At this point, a reconciliation with either Kyle or Dorit seems unlikely.
However, Lisa is close with Garcelle Beauvais. There’s no reason to believe she and Garcelle’s bestie Sutton Stracke wouldn’t get along. Lisa previously crossed paths with Season 14 newcomer Bozoma Saint John at the 2016 Women of Influence Awards. Also, if rumors are true, Kyle might inadvertently bring Lisa and the other Housewives closer together.
How Kyle Richards could make way for Lisa Vanderpump’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills comeback
In the years since she left, Lisa said she has no regrets. Especially about kicking Kyle out of her home. Recently, Lisa said she wasn’t surprised by Dorit and Kyle’s feud because Kyle was a “terrible friend.”
The rumors Andy wanted Lisa back came at an interesting time for her frenemy Kyle. Recent rumors claim that the other Beverly Hills Real Housewives want a Kyle takedown.
We’ve seen RHOBH stars and viewers reach a breaking point with the OG this season. Kyle’s incredibly cagey and defensive about how much (or how little) she shares about her personal life. Her excuses are often ridiculed. Kyle also handled the revelation she texts PK Kemsley very poorly. In the January 21 episode, Kyle once again stormed off from a confrontation. Viewers wondered if it was time she took a break from RHOBH. Under these circumstances, Lisa’s returning to RHOBH would make things full circle.
Does RHOBH need Lisa Vanderpump?
In the initial article, a source claimed that, in addition to Lisa’s return, there would also be a cast overhaul. And that it would be a move to improve the show’s ratings. But is that necessary?
RHOBH’s ratings aren’t as high as they used to be. But it’s still one of the highest-rated Real Housewives series. While it’s not universally acclaimed, a lot of viewers enjoy Season 14. Activated Dorit is more popular than ever, giving lots of viral moments. Newbies Boz and Jennifer Tilly are also very welcome additions. However, others grow tired of the constant focus on Kyle and Dorit. Adding a major player like LVP might successfully shake things up.
However, a full recast seems unlikely. Bravo took a risk by rebooting RHONY, and some would argue it didn’t pay off. The RHOBH cast is a bit fractured, but this doesn’t appear to be a Vanderpump Rules situation where they would refuse to film together for future seasons.
Does Lisa Vanderpump need RHOBH?
Given how busy Lisa is, she doesn’t necessarily need RHOBH to boost her reality TV career. However, it might still benefit her. This could boost Lisa’s reputation.
Lisa already got a lot of backlash for the most recent Vanderpump Rules season. When the reboot was announced, sources called it an ego move on her part.
On a very serious note, Lisa came under fire for her response (or lack thereof) to James Kennedy’s arrest for domestic violence. Especially when it came out that James was under investigation this past year. As an Executive Producer of the show, Lisa was accused of protecting him. It didn’t help that Lisa made a tone-deaf comment just before his arrest.
When asked about Kristen Doute’s pregnancy, Lisa asked who the father was. Surely, Lisa knows that Kristen is engaged to Luke Broderick, her longtime partner. She is a producer on The Valley, which features both parents-to-be. It felt like an unnecessary joke at Kristen’s expense. The comment got widespread backlash.
However, the downfall of Kyle this season has fans saying that Lisa was right about her all along. Some declared Lisa has been vindicated. It’s the most positive comment about LVP in months. Could that be enough to convince her to return to RHOBH?
