Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott have called it quits on their romance, yet some fans noticed signs there was trouble in paradise.

The Made In Chelsea star, 32, had been in a relationship with Zara, 28, since 2019. However, they have reportedly called time on their romance amid rumours of issues between them. Over the past year, the couple were spotted in a heated row and spent time apart from each other.

Zara decided to stay at home while Sam filmed I'm A Celebrity in Australia and the pair even decided to be apart for Christmas and New Year's Eve. Over the half a decade together, the couple built home together next door to Sam's sister Louise and her fiance Ryan Libbey. They also share two cats together - their beloved Albus and Cedric. Festive season apart

This past Christmas, the couple spent the big day apart from each other. Some fans feared for their romance as it appeared the loved up pair were drifting apart. Sam sacrificed his Christmas Day to help those in need - answering the call of a charity to lift spirits by delivering gifts.

Zara decided to spend the day with her family. However, amid speculation of a fallout, Zara showed off an impressive duo of paintings that she had specially commissioned for Sam as a gift. The Love Island star said: "Sam’s Xmas pressie from me! I wanted to get something super meaningful so I had these paintings made… they look a bit random but they are all the meaningful things he loves. They’re by @brittyflynn she’s absolutely incredible." The former couple also spent New Year's Eve apart from each other.

I'm A Celebrity snub

Sam headed Down Under in November as he worked on the latest series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. However, Zara opted to stay in the UK and faced questions from fans. She spoke about the circumstances in a Q&A on Instagram after a fan asked: "How come you didn't go with Sam to Australia?"

Addressing the question, Zara revealed that she has work committments, with her filming a documentary about stalking for the BBC. She added that Sam's schedule would not accommodate a guest either. Zara said: "You guys are funny. I've had this question so many times! Well firstly I'm filming my documentary about stalking at the moment and it's really not possible to take time off filming at short notice. Sam's show only got confirmed last month.

"I am working with some amazing women. It wouldn't feel right, and I wouldn't want to just pull out of filming and let everyone down, especially the brave women who have come forward to share their stories with me. Secondly; Sam has to get up for work at 1am every day, it's a closed set so I wouldn't be able to go to work with him. I'd just be sat at the hotel while he's working."

Crisis talks

Over the summer, it was claimed the couple were having "crisis talks" about their relationship. Zara and Sam reportedly had a massive row, with the former Love Island star walking out of their London pad and heading to her family's home for a while. In August, the pair appeared to have patched things up as Zara celebrated Sam's birthday.

In June, a photo showed Zara appearing to shout at Sam in public after he represented England on the pitch for Soccer Aid 2024. In the images of the seemingly tense pair conversing in public, Zara could be seen animated as she wagged her finger at her beau following the star-studded afterparty. The pair appeared to be locked in conversation as they carried out their animated chat while waiting for their taxi to arrive.

Zara set the record straight regarding the 'argument' amid rumours of trouble in their relationship. "Why did this make me laugh so much btw," she wrote asshe captioned the snap. "'Stop saying you should have scored!!!! You did your best and that's all that matters!!!! You need to stop doubting yourself!!! It looks like we are having an argument but I'm actually telling him positive affirmations in a very passionate manner! [laughing-face emojis]."

Split comments

As news of their split broke, Sam took to Instagram to declare 2025 will be "the best year ever". In a savage move, Sam filmed a video where he said: "New year! 2025 baby come on let's have it! I can't wait. The New year is going to be amazing and you're going to have the best year ever. And you know I'm always right," before appearing to kiss his camera.
