Sister Wives’ Janelle and Meri Brown Discuss Hiring Lawyers Over Coyote Pass Drama With Kody

Sister Wives stars Janelle Brown and Meri Brown may be lawyering up.

The TLC personalities discussed the idea of hiring lawyers to help them figure out what to do with their Coyote Pass property, which they share with ex Kody Brown and his wife, Robyn Brown, in a Sister Wives clip shared by Extra on Friday, January 24. Kody’s ex Christine Brown sold her portion of the property to Kody, 56, and Robyn, 46, for $10 in 2022 after she left the plural family in November 2021. The couple wanted to sell the property, but Meri, 54, and Janelle, 55, weren’t sure if that was the right move.

“I don’t think you get to decide what we do with it,” Meri said of Kody on a video call with Janelle. “Sorry, you are not the head of my family.”

In a confessional, Meri added, “I feel like Kody and Robyn probably have some plan of what they want to do and how they want to handle it. I think that Janelle has some sort of plan, and I know that I do as well. And none of us are talking to each other because of none of us trust each other.”

Janelle, who announced her separation from Kody in December 2022, told the Worthy Up founder that she wanted to get serious about figuring out what to do with the property.

“I think it is time for somebody to be pushing my interests. I probably will get a lawyer,” she said. “In fact, I’ve been talking to one. I hope you feel like that for you too.”

Meri, who announced her split from the Brown family patriarch in January 2023, replied, “I do because it has been a year and half since I’ve had that conversation with Kody.”

Back in her confessional, Meri admitted that there had been “a lot of confusion” surrounding the way things were handled in the family.

“I think that’s why I am going to get a lawyer to help me through this process,” she continued. “I feel like for quite a few years I’ve sat back and just not wanted to ruffle feathers so I haven’t pushed the issue on many things, but I will push the issue now.”

Janelle also told Christine, 52, about hiring a lawyer to help with Coyote Pass during the Sunday, January 19, episode of Sister Wives.

“So I was going to tell you, yeah, I actually hired a lawyer. I’ve found one and I put the retainer down, and basically I’m just going to be going for separation of assets. You know what I mean? Like that’s really all I can go for,” she explained.

The Taeda Farms co-owner continued, “Nothing’s happening. I’ve asked Kody, like, what about selling it? What about all these things? He’s like, ‘Well, I don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe you should talk to Meri.’ Like he’s always putting me off.”

In a confessional, she said she was ready to get moving on whatever they plan to do with the property, but claimed that Kody kept dragging his feet.

“I’m like, dude, let’s just get it sold, let’s get it divided — however we’re going to do this. But it’s just crickets. It’s just whatever,” she said.

Kody, Janelle, Christine, Meri and Robyn bought the Arizona property in 2018 for $820,000. Janelle confirmed during the January 19 episode that Coyote Pass had been paid off. She also shared a breakdown of their ownership, explaining, “So we own, in total, about 14 acres out at Coyote Pass. The way it’s titled — if we were to sell it right now — Meri would get compensated for like, an acre and a half of the whole 14.”

Janelle added that the decision still “hinges on Kody” because “he’s the one that is on all the titles.”

“He’s the one that has to make changes in ownership. Are you going to show up and divide these fairly? What are we doing? Because he’s very wishy washy,” she said. “He says something, then you don’t hear from him forever. I don’t know… there’s no reassurance that he’s going to be kind.”
