Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown Slams Meri and Kody for Claiming She ‘Controlled’ Family’s Money

Sister Wives star Janelle Brown slammed Meri Brown and ex-husband Kody Brown after they claimed that she “controlled” the family’s money.

During the Sunday, November 24, episode of the TLC show, Janelle, 55, caught up with former sister wife and close friend Christine Brown. She recalled talking to Meri, 53, about the division of the former family’s Coyote Pass property one episode earlier, explaining that Kody, 55, didn’t have their best interests at heart.

“She basically implied that she was so surprised, like, somehow, she thought I’d been controlling the money,” the mother of six said of Meri. “I’m like, ‘Dude, man, if I controlled the money we would have paid off, built a house.’”

Janelle continued, “I don’t know what Kody’s been saying about, like, somehow, I’m controlling the money.”

“If you controlled the money, I think things would look a lot different,” Christine, 52, told Janelle, who agreed with the sentiment. Janelle then noted that all she did was “record what was spent and sent it to the accountant” when they were all married to Kody.

Kody also weighed in on Meri’s claims and implied that he agreed with his first wife’s accusations against Janelle. “It’s funny, my other wives remember Janelle controlling the money,” he said in a confessional. “I sort of guided where the money went.”

“We all had access to the account,” Kody continued. “Listen, we were a family working together and we did the best we could.”

Prior to Kody’s divorces from Christine, Janelle and Meri, the Brown family purchased the Coyote Pass property for $820,000 in 2018. Kody initially hoped that they would build a single large home for the entire polygamous family on the land, though the wives quickly shut down the idea. They ultimately agreed that each woman would have their own home to live in with their children on their property.

The family faced several obstacles that prevented them from breaking ground on the land, and the process was indefinitely halted when Christine, Janelle, and Meri left Kody. While Christine sold her share of the property to Kody and his last remaining wife, Robyn Brown, for just $10 in July 2022, fans are currently watching Janelle and Meri fight for what they’re owed on the land during season 19.

Janelle previously urged Meri to fight for what she was “entitled to” at Coyote Pass during the November 9 episode. “I’m going to suggest to you that you protect your interest in it as far as what you’re entitled to — a quarter of it,” she said at the time.

Meri was initially caught off guard when Janelle predicted that Kody wouldn’t protect their investments. “I will watch out for you, but I just want to make sure, Meri — this is really your entire estate. I’m just telling you that you should be aware of what’s going on,” Janelle told her. “I would just make sure that what you’re getting is fair.”

Not only did Janelle discuss her plans to get the money she’s owed on Coyote Pass during the November 24 episode, but she also revealed her hopes to move from Arizona to North Carolina. However, she explained that she needed the Coyote Pass deal to be completed before she was able to buy property.

“When we first signed the paperwork for Coyote Pass, I read that it would be a big balloon payment at the end,” Christine explained in a confessional about Janelle’s dilemma. “They have to pay it off in the end. They have to pay it off in the next couple of months and if they don’t do that, they lose it all. Can you imagine? That’s stressful.”
