Sister Wives’ Kody Brown Hires Lawyer, Files Response to Ex Christine’s Custody Lawsuit

Sister Wives star Kody Brown hired a lawyer and filed a response to ex-wife Christine Brown’s custody and child support lawsuit, In Touch can confirm.

One month after Christine, 52, sued Kody, 55, for child support and custody of their youngest child, daughter Truely, on September 16, the patriarch hired a lawyer and filed his response to the lawsuit.

Kody’s newly hired lawyer – who works in Utah – appeared in court for him on October 13, according to online court documents viewed by In Touch. The attorney filed a response and counterclaim to Christine’s lawsuit on Wednesday, October 23. However, it’s not known what was argued in the counterclaim as the documents have been sealed.

The Ashley was the first outlet to report about the case update.

In her lawsuit, Christine asked the court to establish paternity of Truely, 13, because Kody isn’t currently on her birth certificate. Additionally, she requested a domestic relations injunction that prevents both parties from domestic violence, canceling or modifying services, harassment, taking the child for nonroutine travel without court orders or permission and demeaning or disparaging the other party.

Kody and Christine called it quits in November 2021. Following their split, she and Truely moved from Flagstaff, Arizona, to Utah.

“When I lived in Flagstaff, I firmly believed that moving to Utah was the best choice for me and for Truely,” Christine said during an October 2023 episode of Sister Wives. “I knew that I was taking Truely away from her dad. I felt like the best way to preserve Truely’s relationship with Kody was to move her away from him.”

She then argued that relocating Truely “froze” her relationship with Kody when they were in a healthy place.

In addition to Truely, Kody and Christine share adult children Mykelti, Aspyn, Gwendlyn, Ysabel and Paedon.

Following his split from Christine, Kody also ended his spiritual marriage to Janelle Brown in December 2022 and Meri Brown in January 2023. Meanwhile, he has remained in a relationship with his fourth wife, Robyn Brown.

While Kody and Robyn have not revealed why they took the property off the market, it’s likely due to the lawsuit with Christine. The lawsuit prevents both parties from engaging in financial matters, specific behaviors and activities.

Both Kody and Christine have kept quiet regarding the lawsuit, though she made a jab at her ex when she was asked to describe him in three words during her appearance on Radio Andy. “Deadbeat dad … Sorry, that’s two, but that can be two,” she said. “Deadbeat dad and … oblivious.”

Meanwhile, Janelle, 55, said that she would describe Kody as “charismatic,” adding, “I do think he is selfish, I do, and I do think oblivious is probably good. Like, he seems to be sort of like, I don’t know, the reality is bewildering to him.”
