Meri Brown is getting candid about the state of her relationship with her ex-husband, Kody Brown.

On Friday, December 13, Meri, 53, spoke to People, describing her interactions with the 55-year-old TLC star as cordial —one year after their messy split.

"When we're in each other's space, we are friendly and kind with each other. I don't think that it's inauthentic at all," Meri told the outlet. "It's just not at a place that we're calling each other and texting and being like, 'Hey, friend, how's it going? What are you doing today?' It's not that kind of a relationship, but when we are in each other's space, when we do need to interact. It's totally fine."

While the bad blood between the former couple is gone, Meri wouldn't go as far as to say they are friends.

"I'm very comfortable with him. It's not awkward as far as that goes, but we're just not friends. Certainly not friends. You know what I mean? I'm happy with it," she noted.

After tying the knot in 1990, Meri and Kody legally ended their union in 2014 so Kody could marry his fourth wife, Robyn, 46, and adopt her four children. Meri and Kody officially ended their 32-year spiritual marriage in 2023. The pair share one child, Leon Brown, 29.

Despite her and Kody no longer being church members, Meri told the outlet that she wanted her marriage terminated by the church. "It was important to do because I needed to terminate the marriage on every level," she explained.

Meri also addressed the November 23, episode of Sister Wives where Kody unexpectedly sobbed while assisting his ex-wife in her move from Flagstaff, Arizona, to Parowan, Utah.

"Honestly, it just doesn't make sense to me that he would say one thing and then act like he's all brokenhearted," the TV personality admitted.

Meri said the two talked afterward, and she believes the reality that their relationship was over set in for Kody at that moment.

"But he and I have talked after that, and it's like ... he didn't say this to me. This is my perspective. I just think that it surprised him as well, that he had the emotion that he did," she told the outlet. "I think it really just hit him that it was like, 'Oh, okay. It's done. It's over with.' "I had been dealing with it for many, many, many years prior."

During his union with Meri, in addition to Robyn,Kody was also in plural marriages with Christine Brown, who split from him in 2021, and Janelle Brown, who called it quits with him in 2022.
