Solange Knowles reveals health battle with POTS, Sjogrens syndrome and MCAS

Solange Knowles is known to keep to herself, but when it comes to what matters most, it seems she will speak up.

The singer and actress who is Beyonce's sister, was so moved by musician Shaun Ross, who recently shared a candid video on Instagram discussing his postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) diagnosis, that she too decided to share.

"Sending u so much love and strength Shaun and to all in the comments struggling with the debilitating, confusing, and lonely symptoms of POTS!" she wrote.

"I got diagnosed with POTS, Sjogrens and Mcas in 2018 and really relate to not wanting your health to be your identity," she said.

According to Healthdirect, POTS is "a health condition that causes dizziness and a fast heartbeat when you stand up, as well as a range of other symptoms. It can make daily activities very difficult."

They add that Sjögren's syndrome is "an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the body's own healthy cells. It typically attacks the glands that produce tears, saliva and sweat."

Meanwhile, MCAS, standing for Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, causes "unexplained episodes of severe symptoms like swelling, diarrhea, vomiting, flushing and itching... without a clear trigger," according to Cleveland Clinic.

She also gave a mentioned American health organisation Dysautonomia International, which "seeks to improve the lives of individuals living with autonomic nervous system disorders."

Ross, 33, was thankful for the 38-year-old's input, writing in response, "Thank you so much Solange. You've known me since I was a teen and how energetic I can be. This definitely changed my entire outlook on so much [trying] to navigate this entirely. I appreciate you so much. Sending love ❤️."
