Star suffered an 'excruciating headache' before rushed to hospital while on tour

Derek Hough's wife Hayley Erbert has spoken about her near-fatal health scare almost a year to the day of the shocking incident.

Dancing With The Stars US alum Erbert, 30, suffered a cranial hematoma, or an accumulation of blood in the skull in December last year while on a dance tour.

Speaking about the shocking medical emergency, which took place months after they married, Erbert told US Weekly "there weren't any signs" something was seriously wrong.

"I was really tired, but we'd just been on a red-eye flight from the [season 32] Dancing With the Stars finale. I napped a bit, but nothing was alarming," she told the publication.

She said soon into an act she got an "excruciating headache" which she wanted to worry about after the performance.

"And I pushed myself until my body was like, nope, you can't do this anymore," she said.

Hough said he noticed "one of her eyes was dilated" and she was talking "gibberish" the night before so had some concerns.

Just three weeks ago, Hough spoke about the medical episode in a preview clip for Dancing With The Stars, saying his wife was ''essentially dying'' during the health scare.

Hough also recalled the terrifying moment doctors told him at the hospital Erbert "might not make it" through.

"I was on stage, and she's supposed to come out. The stage manager walked out and just said, 'Hey, she's not coming on stage,'" Hough began.

"She was on the side of the stage having full seizures and, essentially, dying. It's really hard to even put into words other than just pure fear."

Speaking about what the doctor told him, Hough said: "He said that she might not make it and that even if she does make it, she won't be the same person."

In December last year, Hough shared a statement on his official Instagram page revealing his wife was taken to the hospital and suffered a cranial hematoma.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a craniectomy "is a type of brain surgery that relieves pressure on your brain".
