Star Trek star Jill Jacobson dies age 70 as tributes flood in

Tributes have been paid to Jill Jacobson after it was announced the actress had sadly died aged 70.

Jill - whose career included roles in the Star Trek franchise - died in California following a long-running health issue on December 8, it has been confirmed. Her friend Dan Harary told the Hollywood Reporter : "She will be deeply missed by numerous relatives, friends and her beloved dogs, Benny and Kowalski."

As reported by the Mirror, Jill appeared in a number of TV shows and several films over the course of her decades-long career. Her first on-screen role was as the title character in the supernatural film Nurse Sherri (1977), which followed hospital nurse Sherri Martin, who becomes possessed by a spirit.

Jill later played scheming Erin Jones on the CBS soap opera Falcon Crest, with her introduced in 1985. She is credited as having featured in more than 20 episodes before making her final appearance on the show in 1987.

The actress went on to appear in two Star Trek series as different characters. Jill first appeared in the science-fiction franchise as Vanessa in Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1989. Seven years later she played cafe owner Aroya in an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in 1996.

Jill has made appearances on numerous other shows over the years, as stated on her IMDb profile. Her TV credits include the New Gidget, Quantum Leap, Murphy Brown, Ghost Whisperer and Castle. Whilst she's listed as having appeared in films like Splash (1984) and Reality Queen! (2020).

It has been reported that she also ventured into stand-up comedy in her career too. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jill had become a familiar face at the Improv and the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, where she performed stand-up, in recent years.

Tributes have been paid to Jill on social media following the news that she has died. This included reaction from fans of Star Trek, with her now being remembered by some people for her roles within the franchise.

One account on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote in a post: "Remembering the talented actress Jill Jacobson." Sharing their thoughts, someone else wrote on the platform: "The passing of Jill Jacobson is a significant loss to the entertainment industry. Her contributions to both 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' and 'Falcon Crest' are truly memorable."

Meanwhile one Star Trek fan account said: "RIP - #StarTrek's Jill Jacobson. [...] May she rest in peace." And one post on Instagram read: "Hollywood has lost a shining star. [...] Her talent, grace and unforgettable performances left a lasting impact on audiences and the entertainment world."
