Starving Dog Shows Up on Woman's Porch, She Instantly Knows What To Do

Internet viewers have been left in tears after watching a clip of a starving boxer puppy that showed up on a woman's porch in search of help.

Jordyn Slack, 34, shared a video on TikTok (@jordynslack) showing the moment she walked outside to find a puppy on her porch. She told Newsweek he was "the skinniest dog" she has ever laid eyes on, and it was such a heartbreaking sight.

She couldn't turn her back on this mistreated dog, so Slack, from Tennessee, took him inside and gave him food and water. "It was the saddest thing I've ever seen. It was honestly hard to look at him because you could see every bone," she said.

The TikTok video showing the malnourished dog went viral online. In just a matter of days, it has amassed over 351,000 views and more than 36,200 likes.

Slack called the local shelter to get the dog, named Jack Skellington (Jack for short), checked over. They checked him for possible diseases, gave him medication, and found that he didn't have a microchip.

Slack scoured local Facebook groups and contacted her neighbors to see if anyone knew anything about Jack. She couldn't find any information, and it seemed there was only one option: to foster Jack herself.

"After the shelter checked him, they called to see if we would foster him for the weekend," Slack said. "We went to get him, and he settled in great. We bought him a bed, and he went straight to sleep as he was just so exhausted and frail."

Slack added: "The first thing he did was curl up beside my 10-year-old daughter, Baylor. Any time she got up, he was with her. He took to her the most, and they spent a lot of time together during the weekend."

Seeing the bond that Jack formed with Baylor was incredibly moving. He spent almost the entire weekend by her side, snuggled under blankets.

However, Jack didn't get along so well with the family's French bulldog. The pair started fighting and had to be separated. Slack said this was pretty tough to manage as their home is very open, and it was too cold outside to have them in the yard.

Slack was contacted by a local man who offered to meet Jack and see if they could potentially adopt him. The man told Slack that he and his wife are retired, and they recently lost their boxer dog, so would love to rehome another.

Jack hit it off with the couple immediately, but it has been a difficult decision for Slack to consider rehoming him. She and her husband work full-time in health care, and their three daughters have returned to school following the holidays, meaning Jack would be home alone all day.

"The moment the couple sat down, Jack jumped into the wife's lap and licked her in the face. He loved them, which was nice to see," Slack told Newsweek.

"We were really sad to think about not keeping him, but we want to do what's best for him. I want people to remember that he just showed up. It's not like we adopted him and are now trying to find him a new home. We took care of him and loved him the best we could while we fostered him," she said.

Slack would have loved to keep Jack, but it didn't seem viable. She didn't think she could give him the life he deserves, but the retired couple who came to meet him "will spoil him way better."

The Social-Media Reaction

Throughout the few days of having Jack in her life, Slack posted regular updates on TikTok to show how he was doing. She even shared an adorable clip of him and Baylor snuggling up together, which has amassed more than 549,000 views and over 43,800 likes at the time of writing.

Social-media users have praised the family for taking Jack in, leading to more than 2,800 comments on the initial TikTok video.

One comment reads: "The dog showed up on your front porch for a reason.....he chose you."

Another TikTok user wrote: "Thanks for saving him."

A third commenter responded: "You may not need him, but he certainly needs you."
