On the same day Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump attended a Pittsburgh Steelers home game, franchise legends Jerome Bettis and "Mean" Joe Greene released statements endorsing Trump's rival for the presidency, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
"I know this city and I love this city – we work hard to make things happen," Bettis said in a video message posted to his Threads account. "No hot air. No bull. This is what defines the Steel City – and it's the opposite of what Donald Trump stands for. Donald Trump has made promise after promise to the city of Pittsburgh, and time after time, he's failed to deliver.
"And it's time for us to elect a leader who's gonna fight for us. Someone who's gonna roll up their sleeves and get the job done. Not just complain about it at a half-empty venue. There's only one person in this race who fits that bill: Vice President Kamala Harris."
Bettis, 52, amassed more than 13,000 rushing yards and 91 touchdowns in his career, earning six Pro Bowl selections and a championship in 2005. He retired following the Steelers' victory over the Seattle Seahawks in that year's Super Bowl.

"The Bus" wasn't the only former Steeler to endorse Harris on Sunday.
Greene, a cornerstone of the Steelers' dynasty in the 1970s, released a video statement on his own.
"You got my vote for sure," he said in a video posted to the Kamala For PA Twitter/X account.
Greene is revered as one of the greatest defensive tackles in NFL history. Known for his explosive strength and drive, Greene was a key figure in the Steelers' "Steel Curtain" defense, helping the team secure four Super Bowl titles.
The comments coincided with Trump's appearance at Acrisure Stadium for the Steelers' game against the New York Jets on Sunday.
Two other former Steelers, Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell, attended a nearby Trump rally Saturday and endorsed the former president.

Sunday also saw the family of Franco Harris, the late Steelers' Hall of Fame running back, release a statement of its own endorsing the Democratic nominee.
"Hard work and integrity are the bedrock of Western Pennsylvania and are values my father instilled in me," said Harris' son, F. Dok Harris, who is no relation to Kamala Harris. "He taught me that true greatness is achieved by being a part of a team and that leadership is defined by the actions taken to help the whole team succeed. He would be greatly honored to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris because she shares this belief. She champions ideals my father stood for: improving education, building good jobs, supporting labor unions and making sure everyone gets a fair shake."
