Stephen Mulhern was rushed to hospital after he collapsed in front of shocked diners at Pizza Express.

The TV presenter was having a drink with his meal at the restaurant in Sunningdale, Berkshire, when he suffered what is believed to have been a reaction to anaesthetic he had for an operation earlier in the day. A staff member became concerned for the You Bet! host around 8pm on Wednesday, November 27, and an ambulance was called.

It was a second blow for the the grief-stricken 47-year-old, who has been mourning the recent death of his dad.

He was in the middle of tucking into some grub when he began to feel woozy

A source told The Sun: “Stephen has been going through an incredibly tough time of late. He is grieving the loss of his dad to whom he was so, so close. He’s also been battling several well-documented health problems, and on Wednesday morning had a procedure requiring a local anaesthetic.

“He took himself off for a quiet, solo dinner that evening, had a few drinks and just reacted incredibly badly. He’s only human, and his dad’s death has hit him hard.

“Stephen immediately felt unwell and concerned staff came over, and called 999. Paramedics checked him over and took him to hospital as a precaution. He was also put on the phone to his mum to reassure her that he was OK."

The TV host put the episode down to a reaction to anaesthetic

The source added that Stephen is now recovering at home but feels "mortified" by then incident at Pizza Express.

Following the death of his beloved dad last month, Stephen pulled out of commitments with Butlin’s holiday parks. It’s understood he is being supported by his team, including his friend and You Bet! co-host Holly Willoughby.

The TV favourite was once the youngest member of the Magic Circle, and attributes his magic skills to his dad, who introduced him to tricks while working on his market stall.
