Storm Reid is not returning for “Euphoria” Season 3.
The actress, who played Zendaya’s onscreen younger sister Gia, told Rotten Tomatoes at the Governors Awards that the character will not be included in the upcoming installment. Season 3 is expected to have a time jump for the series.
“I’m very excited for Season 3,” Reid said. “Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning to the third season, but I am so indebted to the cast and the crew of that show, to HBO.”
She continued, “‘Euphoria’ is a really special thing and I’m so glad that it’s a part of my legacy and that I was a part of such a cultural phenomenon. I can’t wait to see what Season 3 has in store.”
The first two seasons of “Euphoria” aired in June 2019 and February 2022, respectively. Production on Season 3 of “Euphoria” is set to begin in January 2025.
The production was originally postponed in March 2024. Reid told Variety at the time that she was “not surprised” at the delay.
“We would all hope to be able to go back tomorrow, but there are logistics that have to be figured out,” Reid said. “So even though I’m a little disappointed, I’m not surprised. I would hope the viewers, the audience, will be able to finish the show. I think we should handle the show with care. We’ve put our hearts and souls into it.”
After “Euphoria,” Reid went on to star in “The Last of Us” and will lead Teyana Taylor’s directorial debut “Get Lite” for Paramount Pictures. “Get Lite” is the story of a studious New York City teenager who has his world upended when he falls for a charismatic beatmaker (Reid) who recruits him to join her Litefeet dance crew, forcing him to choose between a safe academic path and his rekindled love of dance.
Reid is also producing the film through her production banner A Seed & Wings Productions, with “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris also producing through his Khalabo Ink Society banner.
Meanwhile, “Euphoria” will have an eight-episode third season. HBO boss Casey Bloys previously said that “all of the actors are in the show” for when it finally returns. The series stars Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Colman Domingo, Alexa Demie, Eric Dane, Maude Apatow, Dominic Fike, and Javon Walton. Season 3 will be the first installment sans Reid, Barbie Ferreira, and late actor Angus Cloud.
