More than two dozen subreddits have banned X links, including those with millions of users. Hundreds more of the Reddit groups are currently discussing following suit …
X owner Elon Musk twice made a gesture at the inauguration which some have described as a “Roman salute” but which is better known for its use a little more recently than 476 AD.
The moment posed something of a challenge for journalists seeking to describe it, as satirical site Men Carrying Things rather beautifully illustrated.
Engadget reports that dozens of subreddits have responded by banning links to the social media platform owned by Musk, and that hundreds more are actively discussing the move.
Dozens of subreddits have opted to block links to X in their communities over the last 24 hours in a movement that appears to be gaining momentum across Reddit […] These include large subreddits, like r/formula1, which has nearly 5 million members […] Hundreds more appear to be actively discussing or considering a similar move with their members.
The movement appears to have been started by r/newjersey.
“F*ck this guy. X links are now banned from r/newjersey,” they shared in a post that now has more than 65,000 upvotes. Accompanying the post was a photo of Elon Musk extending his arm.
r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus is one of those to have introduced the ban. Larger subreddits which have done so include /military, r/comics, r/spiderman, r/pcgaming, and r/rupaulsdragrace – between them accounting for more than nine million users.
