Following fan confusion at a Kansas City Chiefs game on Christmas that led to fans thinking Taylor Swift was in attendance, a woman named Olivia Adamonis who resembles the pop star has spoken out about the confusion.
Newsweek has reached out to a spokesperson for Swift via email for comment.
Why It Matters
While the singer, 35, has previously gone to stadiums to watch her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his team play, she is often closely watched at games, with people filming her every move, attempting to lip read her conversations and even noticing when her jewelry slips off.
Fans have continued to love seeing Swift's continuous attendance and support for Kelce, and let it be known on social media. However, Swift has also been noticeably absent for Kelce's away games as security concerns linger for the singer.
A source told Page Six in September that away games are more complicated for the singer in terms of security measures. "If she is going to a place that isn't Arrowhead [Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri], there are security concerns," one source said. "She has worked with Arrowhead so many times, they feel at ease and comfortable. Going to all kinds of different stadiums, you need to send a team in advance."
What To Know
The Chiefs played the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 25, the first of two games that Netflix livestreamed on Christmas. The game included Kelce's 77th career receiving touchdown. This milestone meant he has surpassed Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez, who spent 12 seasons with the Chiefs between 1997 and 2008.
While Swift was not spotted at Pennsylvania's Acrisure Stadium to watch Kelce help the Chiefs win 29-10 in close to freezing temperatures, a Swift doppelgänger in the VIP section had become the focus for some fans in the stands.
Fans spotted a blonde woman with striking red lipstick—a signature Swift look—and assumed she was there to support Kelce. The ensuing speculation lit up social media, only to be debunked when the mystery woman, Adamonis, revealed that she was not Swift.
Adamonis, a TikTok creator with no prior posts on the social media platform, took to the app to clarify the confusion in a video that quickly garnered over 1.5 million views. She recounted how she and a friend were enjoying the game from a box seat when fans began waving and snapping photos.
"I just waved back because I didn't want to seem rude," she explained, who acknowledged that her hair and makeup likely contributed to the mix-up but emphasized she wasn't seeking attention.
By the end of the game, Adamonis was trending online, her images and videos shared across social media platforms as fans marveled at the uncanny resemblance.
"I never expected this kind of reaction," she said in her TikTok video.
While Swift did not attend the game, she made her presence felt online by engaging with social media posts celebrating Kelce's achievement.
What People Are Saying
TikTok user Angela wrote on Adamonis' post: "Immediately thought you looked like Taylor swift but I can't pinpoint what it is."
TikTok user Aiden also wrote: " i saw the picture and genuinly thought you were Taylor. Of all people to be mistaken for though that's kinda cool. Hopefully it wasn't too invasive for you."
Meanwhile, Kelce spoke of his achievement in a postgame interview on Christmas: "It's everything to me. Tony's [Gonzalez] been a mentor to me, he's been there right there for me [with] any questions I've ever had. I feel like I'm still trying to fill that guy's shoes. He's such an unbelievable competitor and I've got so much love for him. It's an honor to be in conversations with him."
What Happens Next
The Chiefs are once again a contender to attend and compete in the Super Bowl as they are leading their division in the American Football Conference (AFC) West.
The Chiefs currently have a six-game winning streak. They have one more season game before the playoffs starts. On January 5, the Chiefs will face the Denver Broncos in an away game. It's unclear if Swift will attend, but all eyes will be on the lookout.
