Taylor Swift’s Ex Joe Alwyn Shares the One Thought We’ve All Had About Exes Moving On

Moving on from a breakup is hard enough, but when your ex’s new relationship becomes a public spectacle, it’s a whole different ballgame. Joe Alwyn knows this all too well. The British actor, whose six-year run with Taylor Swift ended in April 2023, recently opened up about what it’s been like to move on while the world gazes intently at Swift’s love story with NFL star Travis Kelce. 

Swift and Kelce began dating last fall, a mere five months after her split with Alwyn. Their romance has since been anything but subtle — from their lavish European weekend getaways to the couple’s ability to party alongside fellow KC Chief Patrick and his wife, Brittany Mahomes. 

Meanwhile, Alwyn has stayed true to form, navigating his post-Taylor chapter with his trademark discretion like the first time he opened up about the breakup last June. But he couldn’t avoid addressing Swift’s new romance directly during a new interview.

When asked about his ex, the 33-year-old made it clear he’s not as focused on what Swift wore on her latest date or other details about her romantic life as the media is. “That’s something for other people to do. We’re talking about something that’s a while ago now in my life,” Alwyn said, showing the kind of grace we can only aim for when we run into an ex at the grocery store. “That’s for other people. That’s what I feel,” the actor told The Guardian.

For Swift, moving forward seems to have come quicker — and more publicly. Her relationship with Kelce has been become tabloid fodder. The pair reportedly rang in Swift’s 35th birthday in December in romantic fashion and quietly celebrated New Year’s Eve together. This comes after their earlier appearances together in Kansas City, where Swift has been seen cheering on Kelce at home games. 

Alwyn, on the other hand, seems indifferent to the fanfare. The actor, who co-wrote several songs on Swift’s Folklore during their time together, has remained private in the wake of their breakup, asking only for the space to move on. His comments suggest he’s made peace with his ex’s very public next chapter — as long as people stop pressing him for his take on her latest headline-making moves. And honestly, fair enough.
