Kayla Nicole, Travis Kelce's ex-girlfriend, has found herself at the center of intense scrutiny from fans of Taylor Swift as she reflects on her highly publicized split from the NFL star.
The 31-year-old sports journalist, who dated Kelce for five years before their 2022 breakup, admitted that moving on from the relationship has been challenging.
In a trailer for the reality series Special Forces, Kayla revealed the emotional toll of her split, saying, "Going through a public breakup, it's been overwhelming."
The candid moment was met with a mix of reactions, particularly from Swift's fans, who criticized Kayla for revisiting her relationship with Kelce, now dating the global pop superstar.
Kayla addresses backlash in heartfelt message
Kayla has previously opened up about the backlash she faced when Kelce and Swift's relationship went public. In a vulnerable Instagram post, she spoke about feeling "embarrassed" by the online criticism and emphasized her commitment to empowering other women, especially Black women.
"Dear black girl, they may call you a traitor for falling in love," she said.
"You'll hope the ones closest will protect you, but you will quickly find out that people don't protect what they don't value.
They'll say you're too much, too provocative, too boisterous, too outspoken and in the same breath tell you that you're not enough. Not successful enough, not wholesome enough, maybe not even intelligent enough.
"They'll say you deserve the backlash and embarrassment, because of your blackness, you should have known better. They'll even try to tie your value to your net worth. But black girl, please remember your value lies elsewhere."
Kayla encouraged her followers to find strength in silence and reminded them of their intrinsic worth.
"I know I'm not alone, and I want to make sure you know that you aren't either," she noted.
While Kelce and Swift's whirlwind romance continues to dominate headlines, Kayla's recent public reflections show the lasting impact of her past relationship.
