Ted Danson confronted his past feud with Cheerscostar Kelsey Grammer on an episode oh his podcast about the hit '80s sitcom.
Danson, 76, had Grammer, 69, as a guest on the Wednesday, October 23 episode of Where Everybody Knows Your Name, which he co-hosts with fellow Cheers alum Woody Harrelson. While the podcast episode served as a partial Cheers reunion — Danson portrayed bar owner and bartender Sam Malone, Harrelson played bartender Woody, and Grammer portrayed Dr. Frasier Crane on the NBC series — The Good Place alum and the Frasier star also hashed out an argument they once had on the set of Cheers.
"I feel like I got stuck a little bit with you during the Cheers years. I have a memory of getting angry at you once," Danson recalled to Grammer, who went on to portray Frasier on two spin-off- shows.
"Yeah, you came and told me that one day," Grammer replied.
"It's stuck in both of our memories. But I feel like I missed out on the last 30 years of Kelsey Grammer, and I feel like it's my bad, my doing. I almost feel like apologizing to you," Danson told Grammer, and added, "No, I don't feel like — I apologize to you and me that I sat back, you know, and didn't. And I really do apologize."
Grammer thanked his ex-co-star for the apology and told him, "My love for you has always been as easy as the day, as easy as the sunrise." He also told Danson that he too, regrets their distance and wishes they could have "spent some more time together."
Danson (whose Sam Malone character was the star of the series) and Grammer (whose character initially served as a foil for Sam's love of Diane Chambers, portrayed by Shelley Long) joined the cast of Cheers in 1982 and 1984, respectively. The sitcom ran for 11 seasons, with both actors on until the very end in 1993. Grammer reprised his role after Cheers in the titular role in a spinoff series called Frasier, which ran from 1993 to 2004 — and included and episode where Danson reprised the role of Sam. The sitcom had a revival with the same name on Paramount+ in 2023, and it was renewed for a second season which premiered in September.
