A teen Walmart employee lost her life in one of the most horrifying ways…

According to press releases from the Halifax Regional Police this week, the 19-year-old woman was found dead inside a large walk-in oven in the bakery department of the store in Halifax, Canada, on Saturday night. While law enforcement has not shared her identity, a member of the Maritime Sikh Society confirmed to People on Friday that the victim was Gursimran Kaur. The organization created a GoFundMe for her family, where they share some heartbreaking details about what happened to the teenager.

According to the page, Gursimran and her mom worked at Walmart for the past two years. On the night of October 19, the mother allegedly tried to find her daughter after she had not seen her for an hour. She asked around about Gursimran, but everyone dismissed her concerns as they thought the teen was simply somewhere in the store helping a customer. Her momma knew something was up, though. She started to panic even more when she still could not find Gursimran and was unable to reach her over the phone. As the GoFundMe organizers noted, “it was unusual” for her daughter “to switch her phone off during the day.”

When the mom could not get a hold of Gursimran, she contacted the onsite admin for help. And what happened next is terrible. Truly a parent’s worst nightmare. The organization claimed her mom eventually discovered her daughter’s remains inside the oven of the bakery a few hours later. OMG! Police were then called around 9:30 p.m. about a “sudden death,” per a news release on Monday.

Imagine the pain and horror she experienced at that moment. Our hearts break for her and her daughter, who lost her life so young. At this time, police have not revealed how Gursimran got inside the oven and her cause or manner of death. Unfortunately, it may take some time to get confirmation about what happened. The Halifax Regional Police explained in a news release on Tuesday:

“It is important to note that the investigation has not yet reached a point where the cause and manner of death have been confirmed. The investigation is complex and involves several partner agencies. An investigation of this nature may take a significant amount of time. We urge the public to be mindful of sharing speculative information on social media. Please be aware of the impacts that speculation could have on family, colleagues and loved ones of the woman.”

However, the Maritime Sikh Society alleged on the GoFundMe page that Gursimran was “found burned to death in the walk-in oven.” Audio of emergency officials responding to the tragedy seemingly backs the claim. In the call, the dispatcher described the incident as a “technical rescue call” at the Halifax Walmart. They said:

“Female is locked in an oven in the bakery, oven is on, unsure if the staff are able to turn it off.”

So scary! An official later noted that “the person was out of the oven upon arrival,” and the regional police are handling the situation. As we know, Gursimran sadly died at the scene. So, so awful.

According to The Canadian Press, Walmart spokesperson Amanda Moss declined to say whether “the woman was on shift when she died.” However, Moss did say in a statement to People on Wednesday that the staff are “heartbroken” and the store will be closed “until further notice,” adding:

“Our deepest thoughts are with our associate and their family. Our focus remains on taking care of our associates and making sure they have the support they need. As police have stated, this is a very complex matter and the investigation is ongoing.”

Such a horrible tragedy…
