Temu's 12 million UK customers can now buy products, including fashion and homeware, from local suppliers, significantly reducing delivery times to two days – down from up to two weeks when sent from Temu's regular suppliers in China.
Many of the locally sourced products sold through Temu are larger items, such as coats or furniture, which would be more expensive to ship from China.
The Shanghai-based business, which also has headquarters in Boston in the US, is reportedly looking to open a London office in the UK with "dozens" new employees, including directors poached from resale marketplace Ebay, The Sunday Times reported.
Similarly to its fast fashion rival, Shein, Temu offers free shipping and returns within 90 days, as well as low prices. Temu's Black Friday offers including T-shirts sold for 68p.
Temu's decision to work with UK suppliers is likely to further threaten UK-based retailers, who have been able to maintain their competitive edge with their shorter delivery times.
