Texas Man Charged With Murder Found 'Asleep On The Couch' Next To Slain Sister & 2-Year-Old Niece

A Texas man has been charged with murder after police discovered him lying asleep next to the dead bodies of his sister and his 2-year-old niece.

This story is almost too horrific to even wrap your head around. On Friday, the Houston Police Department made a harrowing discovery on Richmond Avenue at around 3 a.m., per a press release. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Arrington and officers K. Clark and M. Nicotra revealed that law enforcement heard from a caller that a woman and child “were being held hostage within an apartment.”

The release noted:

“The citizen was concerned for their safety and told officers a male [suspect Fisher] was inside the apartment.”

When they went to investigate, they found 29-year-old Kendrick Rayvon Fisher “asleep on the couch” in the home — and nearby, his 28-year-old sister Genene Fisher and her 2-year-old child Karlie Fischer were found fatally stabbed. Horrifying…

Both Genene and her daughter, who were identified by ABC 13 News, were pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple stab wounds. So, so tragic. The suspect also had “injuries consistent with a physical altercation” and “blood on his clothing.” He was promptly arrested and charged with capital murder in relation to the crimes. He was booked into Harris County Jail and denied bond, per a police statement.

This isn’t his first run-in with the law, either, according to ABC 13 News. They obtained records that show he served a seven-year sentence for armed robbery and was released in December 2023. His original sentence was extended due to a contraband offense he obtained behind bars. Just one year later, he’s back in police custody. Oof.

So, why do all this? Unfortunately, there appears to be no clear motive for the alleged murders at this time. A neighbor named Emmanuel Thomas told the outlet there was “no tension” in between the siblings at the time of the killings, reflecting:

“I don’t understand hurting your own sister, hurting a woman, hurting another person, period. But what possessed you to hurt this baby? We could see no red flags. This was just completely out of the blue.”

Kendrick had reportedly been living with his sister for a few months. That said, the neighbor claimed other residents and Fisher’s own family felt uneasy around him. The suspect’s mother Joanna spoke with reporters on Friday and alleged her son had gotten physical with her, saying via ABC 13 News:

“He had already beat the hell out of me.”

So heartbreaking. We can’t imagine what this family is going through, our heart goes out to the victims. May they rest in peace.
