'The best news ever': Iconic '90s rockers Goo Goo Dolls announce Australian tour

The Goo Goo Dolls are heading back to Australia for a tour.

Weeks after they were named as headliners for the Yours and Owls Festival 2025, the iconic '90s rockers have added a number of side shows.

Known for the power ballad Iris, the band will tour next select cities across the country in February and March. 

They will be supported by Aussie pop band Thirsty Merc.

The Goo Goo Dolls will kick off their 'Australia Summer Anthem' tour in Canberra on February 20, before heading to Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne.

Fans of the US band rushed to social media to express their excitement.

"This is the best news ever. Loved you with matchbox 20," one of their fans wrote.

"GGD my all time faves, and my Aussie faves Thirsty Merc, what a perfect lineup," a second person wrote.

"I watched you with matchbox in Sydney and thought (like many people did I'm sure) that you need to come back and be the main act! So happy," yet another person wrote.

News of the dates also led some fans to urge the band to add shows to their tour.

"Why does Perth miss out?" one fan wrote.

"No Perth?" another wrote.

Other fans pressed the band to travel farther afield.

"Come to Brazil," one fan wrote.

"New Zealand is close to Australia...maybe pop over for a cheeky gig?," another person wrote.

"Please come to Europe," yet another person wrote.

The Goo Goo Dolls were last in Australia in February this year.

"We were just down there early this year opening for Matchbox [Twenty] and it was awesome, everybody there is so cool," guitarist and frontman John Rzeznik told Today Extra last month.

"The country seems like spring break, everybody is so chill about everything and such huge music fans.

"There's such a love for music there, it's amazing to me and we were very well received and then we got the offer to do this festival."
