'The Golden Bachelorette' Fans Will Be Relieved by This Spoiler After Learning Guy Gansert's Dark Past

Fans of The Golden Bachelorette were certainly not expecting to learn that one of Joan Vassos’ final three, Guy Gansert, has a dark past that clashes with his charismatic demeanor on the show. But this spoiler about the rest of the season might mean those who are concerned about Vassos have nothing to worry about.

In early October, news broke that Gansert’s ex-wife, Heidi O’Gara, filed for a temporary protective order against Guy in Reno, Nevada in October 2021, but dismissed it the following month before it was granted.

In the filing, which was obtained by People, O’Gara requested Gansert only contact through email only about matters related to parenting their four kids, claiming that she received text messages “trying to reconcile then flipping to anger,” and later “physically tried to threaten me.”

The day she filed for the order, O’Gara alleged that Gansert had placed something under her tire after he ran into her with his sister at the gym. She claimed he then allegedly “motioned like he was going to shoot me with his hand shaped like a pistol.”

Immediately, fans of The Golden Bachelorette expressed their concern that Vassos might have unknowingly picked Gansert as her winner without learning the details about his past. Fans were also outraged that Gansert was the second contestant on Vassos’ season who was the subject of this type of allegation — in September, reports emerged that Gil Ramirez’s ex-girlfriend was granted a restraining order against him days before filming began.

However, in reports that reveal who wins Vassos’ The Golden Bachelorette season, it would appear that Gansert failed to win the lead’s heart and get that final rose.

Then, there’s the fact that Vassos seemed to hint that Gansert is no longer in her life when she only spoke about him in the past tense during an Oct. 23 appearance on The Viall Files podcast, where she also said some telling things about Chock Chappele.

When asked about the protective order, Vassos explained that she “never saw that side of Guy” and all of her interactions with Gansert and her other suitors were “pure and lovely.”

“I would have never had any indication that there was any kind of past that he had. I had no idea what the interactions with his ex-wife were at that time,” she continued. “He was so kind to me and he was so open and he was so vulnerable. He cried. He talked about, you know, finally feeling happy for the first time in so many years.”

Vassos also hinted that she doesn’t know any further details about the allegation against Gansert which would lead us to assume that she is no longer in touch with him, even though she still spoke highly of him. “I still believe that he’s a kind and good person,” she said. “You know, maybe he made a mistake. I don’t know. I don’t know anything about [it] other than what you guys know.”

Gansert offered his response to the allegations via an Instagram Story on Oct. 10. “I would like to respond to articles about a personal matter from 2021,” he wrote, “This was an unfortunate situation that occurred during an incredibly stressful time for me and my former spouse and was ultimately resolved when she voluntary [sic] dismissed her request for a protective order. Together we crafted a resolution that was agreeable to both parties.”

Gansert’s ex-wife also addressed the situation in a statement to People. “After years of marriage, Guy and I share four amazing children and a new grandson,” O’Gara said. “While our divorce was very difficult, to protect our family’s privacy and to move forward, we reached a mutual resolution and have chosen not to comment about it publicly.”
