The Pogues announce special anniversary tour four decades after album was released: 'You asked and so The Pogues return'

The Pogues have announced some exciting news this week, they're set to hit the road for a tour ten years since they last toured the UK as part of a headline tour.

The news was shared on the group's official Instagram page and the tour celebrate 40 years since the release of their second album, Rum Sodomy & the Lash, which was released back in August 1985.

"Well, you asked, and so The Pogues return in 2025 for our first UK Tour since 2012 to celebrate 40 years of Rum Sodomy & the Lash," they said.

"Featuring James Fearnley, Jem Finer, Spider Stacy and some thoughtfully chosen ⚓️ Special Guests ⚓️💫."

The tour begins on May 1 next year in Leeds, before the band heads to Birmingham, London, Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle.

One fan and follower commented underneath: "In this world of doom & gloom there's very few things nowadays to brighten up the dark days, the fact that we now have Pogues live gigs to look forward to in 2025."

It comes after band member Shane MacGowan's death in November last year, at the age of 65.

He was one of the founding members of the iconic band.

His wife Victoria Mary Clarke later confirmed his cause of death to The New York Times, saying he died from pneumonia amid his battle with viral encephalitis, a rare form of brain inflammation. 

The band is known for hits including Fairytale Of New York and A Pair of Brown Eyes.
