Produced by Studio Lambert, during its launch last season (Season 2), “The Traitors” became the #1 unscripted series in the U.S. across all streaming platforms according to Nielsen. It followed this feat by receiving four Primetime Emmy award nominations, winning two for Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program for Cumming. In it’s first season, the show took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program.

The competition series consists of both physical and mental challenges that team contestants up against one another, but underneath the games being played outright to build up prize money, another game is being played behind the scenes. At the start of each season, three “Traitors” are chosen to collaborate together, finding ways to trick other contestants and keep suspicion off themselves. Those chosen to remain “Faithfuls” must weed out these “Traitors” while at the same time getting others to trust their status as one of the team. If by the end of the season, any traitors still remain, they get to keep the prize fund, which can be worth up to $250,000.

“The Traitors” is based on the Dutch TV series “De Verraders,” but is more closely related to it’s UK counterpart, also produced by Studio Lambert and taking place at the same castle estate in Scotland where the U.S. version is set. Many of the props and games are re-used by both versions, though the U.K. take uses regular individuals rather than TV personalities. There are Australian and Canadian counterparts as well.

The first two seasons of “The Traitors” are currently available to stream on Peacock.
