Country singer Sundance Head, a winner on The Voice US, is recovering at home after he was accidentally shot in the stomach while handling a firearm on a hunting trip at his East Texas ranch.
Head, who won the eleventh season of the reality competition series in 2016, was leaning into his vehicle to grab his .22 calibre pistol when it fell out of its holster and onto the exterior of the vehicle and fired off a shot that hit Head in the stomach, his agent, Trey Newman, said in an email on Sunday (overnight in Australia).
Newman said Head was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, located about 100 miles (approx. 161 kilometres) east of Dallas.

Newman said no vital organs were hit and no surgery was needed. Head was released later Friday, he said.
On Sunday morning in Australia, Head's wife Misty shared an update with his fans on his official Facebook page.
"Good morning just wanted to give an update on Sundance – he was released late last night we got home very early this morning it was a ruff [sic] 3 hr ride home for him as the meds were wearing off and bc he was moving he was bleeding badly through his dressings not to mention he was in just a hospital gown all his clothes were at the ranch," she wrote.

"We got him home I was able to change and clean out the dressing and repack though he's not an easy patient and gave him some [painkillers]," she continued.
"Not sure I slept bc I was worried about him as was he but hearing him snore was music to my ears. Dressing held as of now – will change again shortly – I'm posting a pic of his shirt just so y'all can see how lucky he was. Any higher or lower would have been devastating.
"I can't express how grateful we are for all the messages, calls, and prayers. God is AWESOME. He's definitely going to have a lot to say and once he feels up to it I'll have him do a video in his own words. Y'all know he has a way with words and know he won't just have a song to write but an entire album of this accident. Again thank you all."

Misty also included a photo of the shirt she said Head was wearing when he was shot.
Before his win on NBC's The Voice, Head competed in American Idol on Fox in 2007, making it to the top 16 before being eliminated. Blake Shelton was Head's coach on the season he won The Voice US.
Head, who has upcoming performances scheduled in Texas and Illinois, is from the community of Porter, located north of Houston.
