The Weeknd has teamed up with Spotify for a special concert film showcasing the "Billions Club Live" event held in honor of the singer's monumental streaming achievement with the platform.
On Tuesday, Spotify released an exclusive 45-minute film capturing The Weeknd's one-night-only concert in Los Angeles. The film celebrates his record-breaking accomplishment of 25 songs with over a billion streams on the platform. It features several performances of his hits and new tracks from his upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, and features special voiceover moments recorded by The Weeknd, in which he reflects on his career and expresses gratitude for his global audience.
The film will be available for the first 48 hours on Spotify to honor The Weeknd's monumental achievement on the platform. It was produced by OBB Pictures, the film, TV and digital division of OBB Media. In a statement, the Vice President of Partnerships and Marketing at Spotify Marc Hazan called the event a "reward" to fans who helped The Weeknd get those streams, and a "historic moment" in music.
"Spotify is known for bringing fans and artists together better than any other platform, which is why we're excited to see the reaction to our first-ever concert film celebrating The Weeknd's milestone of 25 songs with one billion+ streams," said Hazan. "This 45-plus minute video experience premieres only on Spotify, a reward for the fans who made him a streaming legend. This isn't just a concert, it's a celebration of a historic moment in music."
The event took place in December in Los Angeles, and over 1,700 of The Weeknd's top Spotify fans attended. The invite-only event also included celebrity guests, including d4vd, Ava Max, Jimmy Tetro, Patrick Ta, Adam Savani, and Teezo Touchdown.
