5. Pennsylvania is the fifth-highest ranking state for serial killers. There have been 5 known serial killers that have stalked the state of Pa., the most notorious being the "House of Horrors" killer Gary Heidnik. Heidnik murdered two women in his north Philadelphia home, where he held six victims in chains and used electrical shock on them between 1986 and 1987.
4. Indiana comes in next with 6 known serial killers. One of the most infamous, William Clyde Gibson, went on a killing spree for a decade before finally being caught.
3. Ohio and Illinois are tied with 7 known serial killers each. Ohio produced perhaps one of the world's most notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer.
2. Illinois — tied with Ohio — was the home of John Wayne Gacy, an amateur clown convicted of luring 33 men and boys to his home in the Chicago suburb of Norridge and strangling them to death.
1. New York is at number 1, topping the list with 18 recorded serial killers, one being the infamous "Son of Sam" killer. David Berkowitz killed 6 people in New York state in the late '70s.
