Reaching for pre-made pasta sauce off the supermarket shelf for a quicker way to cook?
According to This Morning star Shivi Ramoutar, making the perfect pasta sauce is easier than you think, with ingredients that are probably already in your home.
Speaking to Reach PLC, the chef shared that as well as tomatoes and herbs, butter is a key ingredient for the much-loved dish.
She spilled: "I did a really simple tomato sauce, I did one really big onion and I sweated that down with butter and olive oil, so it was really caramelised and golden and really sweet.

"I then added oregano and fresh basil, I threw that in and a tin and a half of chopped tomatoes, and then let that simmer with some salt and some chilli flakes.
"My mouth is watering, it is so good and it's a really simple way.
"It's the butter, you're cooking the onions down with the butter and it tastes fantastic, the tomato sauce, a bit of parmesan cheese... heaven."

Recipe details, as told by Shivi
Ingredients:
- Olive oil, salt and pepper, butter, one onion and tinned tomatoes
- Any pasta – cook it in any way you like
For the sauce:
- One onion, roughly sliced
- Sautee the onions with a BIG heap of butter (like a heaped tablespoon)
- Leave to soften and sweeten for about 10 minutes on the lowest heat with a pinch of salt, so the onions are almost caramelised - yum!
- Add one can of tinned tomatoes
- Here you can add olive oil, dried oregano or fresh basil [and] a little bit of chilli flakes
- Let that simmer away
- The acidity of the tomatoes [will then be] so nicely balanced with the caramelised onions.
