Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for September 5, a thrilling drama that many awards pundits consider a dark horse at the 2025 Oscars.
This riveting movie chronicles the terrorist attacks during the 1972 Munich Olympics through the eyes of the ABC Sports team covering the event on television. Black September, a Palestinian terrorist group, infiltrated the Olympic Village and kidnapped several Israeli athletes. “There’s a hostage situation going on right now in the Olympic Village,” says John Magaro’s Geoff Mason, a producer at ABC Sports.
Because of the studio’s location crisis, ABC Sports pivots from covering the Olympic games to providing updates on the hostage situation. An estimated 1 billion people watched the global broadcast. Despite high viewership, Geoff and his team grapple with moral and ethical dilemmas surrounding their coverage, including whether the cameras would show the terrorists executing hostages on live television.
“This is our story, and we’re keeping it,” says Peter Sarsgaard’s Roone Arledge, the legendary ABC executive.

Besides Magaro and Sarsgaard, September 5’s cast includes Ben Chaplin, Leonie Benesch, Zinedine Soualem, Georgina Rich, Corey Johnson, Marcus Rutherford, Daniel Adeosun, Benjamin Walker, and Ferdinand Dörfler.
September 5 is directed by Tim Fehlbaum, a Swiss filmmaker best known for 2011’s Hell and 2021’s Tides. Fehlbaum co-wrote the script with Moritz Binder and Alex David.
September premiered at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival to an overwhelmingly positive reception. The drama could shake up the 2025 Oscars as a sleeper candidate for Best Picture. The Hollywood Reporter currently has September 5 as the No. 1 movie in its Best Picture rankings.
September 5 opens in select theaters on November 29, 2024, before expanding on December 13, 2024.

The masks are back on, and the madness has only just begun. Lionsgate revealed the first teaser for The Strangers: Chapter 2, the middle entry in Renny Harlin's horror trilogy.
On Friday, Lionsgate unveiled the first footage from The Strangers: Chapter 2, which picks up in the aftermath of the unsettling events from the first film. Madelaine Petsch returns as Maya, who survived the attacks by the sadistic masked intruders. In Chapter 1, Maya and her boyfriend Ryan (Froy Gutierrez) made a pit stop in Venus, Oregon, after having car problems. While staying at an isolated cabin, three masked strangers invade the property and torment the couple. Ryan's fate is unknown after being stabbed in the stomach and left to bleed out. Maya was also stabbed but made it to the hospital.

Lionsgate's footage begins with Blake (Christopher Abbott), his wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner), and daughter, Ginger (Matilda Firth), stuck in an upside-down U-haul in the forest. Before escaping to the forest, Blake is attacked by an unknown monster. The family manages to find shelter at a secluded house. The creature continues to stalk the house from the outside as Blake's health deteriorates. Unbeknownst to Blake, he's transforming into the monster known as the Wolf Man.

David Harbour cried reading the Stranger Things season 5 finale: ‘Best episode they’ve ever done’
Judging by David Harbour's comments, fans will need tissues when watching the Stranger Things season 5 finale.
On Thursday, Harbour appeared at the Happy Sad Confused podcast's 10th anniversary celebration at New York Comic Con. Harbour gave the live crowd a little treat by teasing what they can expect for Stranger Things season 5. Harbour and his castmates have read the series finale, which he called "the best episode they've ever done." The finale was so good that it moved people to tears.
“The end of this [final] episode, when we were reading it — just us reading it — about halfway through, people started crying,” Harbour said. “Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people. Noah Schnapp being my favorite.”
In Harbour's mind, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer "landed the plane" for a satisfying conclusion to the five-season show. Harbour, who stars as Jim Hopper, has worked with this young cast for nearly a decade, so he's witnessed their growth from a young age. The transition from childhood to adulthood plays a major theme this season that Harbour believes will be a hit with fans.
