TV star brings people to tears as son, 21, shares substance abuse battle

1 month ago 5

There’s no denying Mary Cosby has become something of a Real Housewives icon. Since first appearing on RHOSLC four years ago, she’s emerging as a solid fan favorite. Now, as some super emotional and “powerful” scenes between herself and her son, Robert Jr, air in season 5, Mary is set to go down in the Bravo history books.

The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City hopped aboard the Bravo train later than many of the others in the franchise. Launching in 2020, Meredith Marks, Lisa Barlow, Heather Gay, and co have all had a relatively recent rise to reality TV fame. Despite only being on the Bravo show a short while, RHOSLC fans are “blown away,” and “in awe” of the season 5 scenes. We’re not crying, you’re crying.

1. ‘Powerful and real’

This is one of, if not, the most powerful & real scenes ever on Housewives. What Robert Jr shared is something many wouldn’t admit to. You can tell he and Mary are close because he spoke openly. Mary not judging him but offering love & supportđŸ˜đŸ‘đŸŸ. #RHOSLC pic.twitter.com/TyQlcXwi5g

3. Robert Jr and Mary are ‘brave’

Mary and Robert Jr. are so incredibly brave and deserve all the hugs in the world for having this raw and vulnerable conversation on camera.

5. A real turnaround

Cue all the Kelly Brook spitting out a drink memes as fans can barely believe they’re now Mary STANS after seasons of disliking her.

6. Protect Robert and Mary

These two need to be protected at all costs.

7. ‘Never cried so hard’

Mary provided an update on Robert Jr via Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live this November.

According to his mom, Robert Jr is “doing well.”

8. Getting to know Mary is a joy

Sharing more of her life on screen in season 5 looks to have been a good move for Mary Cosby.

Some think an award could be coming her way next year for her scenes.

9. Using a platform for good

In an era where reality TV stars are hyper aware of the cameras & what they share, this moment was so raw, unfiltered, authentic, gut wrenching, emotional & REAL. I applaud both Mary & her son for taking the leap to not only talk about it, but do so in front of the world. #RHOSLC https://t.co/2XllZUFw3E

Mary’s stans are aware she and Robert Jr didn’t have to share his journey on screen.

The fact they did speaks volumes and she explained on the Aftershow how she hopes Robert’s story will help other people.

Go Mary and Robert Jr!

12. Scene is ‘gut-wrenching’

It was gut wrenching to hear Robert Jr say that he didn’t want to be alive at the time but his mom, Mary was the only reason he didn’t k*ll himself. 💔 The realest and most vulnerable moment I have heard from this entire franchise. #RHOSLC pic.twitter.com/6EzHlYub5X

13. People are left ‘speechless’

Mary’s conversation with her son about his substance abuse issues was the most impactful scene i’ve seen on housewives in years. The vulnerability and degree of rawness was heartbreaking, and the love she has for him is palpable. I’m speechless truly #RHOSLC pic.twitter.com/qNtVtLgib1

The love Mary has for her son really is palpable. We couldn’t agree more.

14. Mary isn’t judging her son

i think Mary’s son was the one true person she had real love with, i think with all her family issues he was her one safe person, it must be so heartbreaking for her but her total lack of judgement was incredible to watch.#RHOSLC pic.twitter.com/oVG6rIhRVG

Mary said she wouldn’t support Robert Jr’s lifestyle, but she would “try to help” him get things back on track – without judgment.

15. Scene is super emotional

That scene between Mary and her son was one of the most emotional scenes I’ve ever seen on Real Housewives.

No words to describe how heart wrenching that was to watch, but you have to think that will help people to see. Very brave to put that out there. Wow. #RHOSLC

It was “heart-wrenching” to watch, that’s for sure. But, so many people could be helped by bringing these kinds of issues to light.
