Tyler Perry Presses UK Journalist on Their 'Insatiable' Appetite for Meghan Markle News

Tyler Perry is one of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s biggest supporters after lending them his Beverly Hills estate in 2020. He became a huge part of their royal family exit as the international borders closed amid the pandemic and the couple needed to land somewhere safely. 

The escape and generous offer were chronicled in the Sussexes’ 2022 Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, and Perry is now the godfather to their youngest child, daughter Lilibet, 3. Just last week, Meghan showed up to support the media mogul at the Paley Center Honors on Dec. 4 — the love between them is real. That’s why Perry is pushing back against a U.K. journalist for The Times on the “insatiable” appetite for news about the Duchess of Sussex in their country. 

The filmmaker was asked how he prepared Harry and Meghan for their move in 2020, and it sounded like Perry didn’t like the question. “I didn’t,” he responded while letting the reporter know that he was irritated through his tone. “She knows California well. So, there was nothing to prepare them for.”

He wasn’t done though. He added, “But I will say this: what I learned about mentioning them — because there’s this insatiable appetite to know all about them — is that any question that is asked becomes the headline of anything I say.” The writer then asked why he thought everyone wanted Meghan stories. “You’re from the UK, you tell me,” Perry pushed back. 

Meghan praised her pal in her famous 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, recalling Perry’s kind gift. “We didn’t have a plan, and we needed a house and he offered security as well so it gave us breathing room to try to figure out what we were going to do,” she said, per CBS News. That feeling is mutual, and Perry made sure to gush about his pal on Today in 2022. 

“It was a very difficult time for them, and what I know about the two of them that I wish the world knew is how much they love,” Perry shared. “These two people love each other. They found each other. Out of all these odds against them finding each other, they found each other. The love they have is really, really moving and I just wanted to do anything I could to support them.”

The love is real between them and anyone willing to question Perry about Meghan better be ready for some serious pushback.
