With watchOS 11, Apple has brought Live Activities from the iPhone to the Apple Watch, so that users can check for updates in real time directly from the Smart Stack. While watchOS can mirror Live Activities from the iPhone, Uber has now made its Live Activity a whole lot better on the Apple Watch.
Uber’s Live Activity on Apple Watch
As noted by a number of users, the Uber app’s Live Activity has now been tweaked with a specific interface for the Apple Watch. Previously, during an Uber ride, Live Activity only showed the Uber logo and the ETA as it simply replicated what was shown in the compact view for the iPhone’s Dynamic Island.
With the update, Uber’s Live Activity on Apple Watch now shows an icon with a circular progress bar so you can keep track of the ride in real time. The ETA has also been made clearer as Live Activity now says “Dropoff at” instead of simply showing the estimated time. In addition, Uber’s Live Activity on Apple Watch also shows an image of the car with the license plate when the driver is arriving.
Although this is a small touch, it makes the experience of tracking an Uber ride much better for Apple Watch users – especially since Uber discontinued its Apple Watch app in 2022.
As mentioned above, Live Activities on the Apple Watch are shown in the Smart Stack, which can be accessed by rotating the Digital Crown upwards. However, the system automatically shows you the Smart Stack with Live Activity at the top when there’s a new status update. Developers can create specific Live Activities for the Apple Watch even without having a watchOS app.
If you’re an Uber user, make sure you have the latest version of the app installed on your iPhone to access the new features. It’s worth noting that watchOS 11 requires an Apple Watch Series 6 or later.
