Surveillance footage released by the NYPD on Thursday shows the smiling suspect, with a black mask hanging from his chin, wearing a gray hoodie-the same one he reportedly wore during the crime.

The likeness to Timothee Chalamet, the 28-year-old star of Dune, also became a talking point.

The surveillance photos show the suspect standing at a Starbucks counter at West 56th Street and Sixth Avenue, just minutes before the shooting. The NYPD believes the man later approached Thompson near the Hilton Hotel and fired multiple rounds at close range before fleeing.
The suspect's escape unfolded in two stages: initially on foot and later using an e-bike to disappear into the city streets.
While the online buzz around the suspect's resemblance to Hollywood stars has taken a lighthearted tone, the case itself is a grim and serious matter.
The NYPD has not yet identified the suspect or disclosed a potential motive for the high-profile crime.
