Project Mugen, the free-to-play open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase Games with an anime aesthetic has a new name. First revealed to the world last year, the game will now be known as "Ananta" which means "endless" in Hindi.
Developer Naked Rain also revealed that a new gameplay trailer will debut at 6 pm PT/9 pm ET on December 4, 2024. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser trailer for the game featuring Taffy, one of its playable characters.
We've only seen snippets of gameplay from Ananta but it looks quite promising. The combination of its anime-like characters, parkour and swinging inspired by Spider-Man, and cutting-edge graphics makes for an interesting game, and it's one that gacha fans have kept an eye on since its first teaser.
In an interview with IGN last year, Project Mugen/Ananta lead producer Ash Qi revealed that the games that inspired Ananta the most were Prototype and its sequel.
"When I was maybe 10 or 12, I played Prototype and Prototype 2," said Qi. "Those are the games that inspired me to make Project Mugen. [Prototype] reminded me of the Venom character from Spider-Man, and it was so cool. And I loved the city."
Until now, Naked Rain has revealed five main characters for the game, who all seem very similar to those found in Zenless Zone Zero, another popular urban-fantasy RPG from Hoyoverse. The game will also feature a multiplayer mode, where players can join their friends online in exploring the city.
Ananta takes place in Nova City, a "sun-soaked coastal hub" that acts as the primary setting. Interested players can pre-register for the game on Ananta's official website. Like most gacha games, we're expecting players who pre-register for it to receive various exclusive in-game items once the game releases.
Ananta is currently being developed for PC, PS5, Android, and iOS.
